The heating issue

As my other thread seems to be continually being missed/ignored, and my e-mails are not being answered, I guess I'll start a new thread. As some of you may have read, I've been having slowdown problems similar to other people's right before their computer died. I've e-mailed Sager and they told me to clean the fan vents.

My question (quoted from my other thread):
What I'm wondering is, if the fan/vent cleaning doesn't help with the heating issue, am I out of luck or would I be able to sent it to Sager and have them fix it? I'm not sure if a heating issue is something they would consider fixing, but I sure hope so since the laptop is not working as intended because of overheating.

Also Luke, I sent you my invoice ID number so that you could look into my Warrantech warranty info and I'm wondering if you've gotten word from them. I'm really starting to get worried with all these reports of laptops dying after the problems I'm experiencing and want my warranty status confirmed in case I have to RMA it after my 1 year Sager warranty expires.

Thanks.

Before my sager died I did not experience any slow downs
Have you upgrade the video drivers?

Yep, I have the latest catalyst drivers. I'm fairly sure it's a heating issue now and I'm just wondering if Sager will fix it if I RMA it or is a heating problem not serious enough for their to repair it? It seems kind of dumb if it's not qualified for repair though since it's preventing my laptop from running properly while playing games.

And I don't know why, but Luke won't answer my posts or e-mails about my Warrantech warranty. =\

Got the same problems. My D900T with 6800go is always at about 63°C when idleing since one week. Before that week it used to be at 57°C And I am also experienceing slowdowns in games that used to run great before because of that.

I've also made sure that all fans are running and I've also cleaned em completely... but it's still not getting under 63°C allthough it once used to...

Gob,

I got my laptop back from Sager, and although they broke my DVD drive, the system itself is running fine now. They swapped out my motherboard with a new one (not sure which version yet, need to check, hoping it's the 6.1 to be ready for the 7800 GTX upgrade)

So in my case, the motherboard was in the process of dying when these slowdowns started. It eventually wouldn't boot at all, which is why I sent it in. The motherboard swap fixed my slowdown problem.

I know that's probably not what you wanted to hear (having to send the thing in), but it may eventually come to that. Good luck.

Those temps are definitely on the high side. My 9880 never idles above 45 deg. Of course, I'm using a laptop cooler on it but, everyone should. They're not expensive and, they can make a difference.

Not to mention, my room temp is quite cool...

Yeah, laptop died about a week ago due to heat issues. Its at sager now and they are dealing with it. I hope they get this heating issues figured out, this is really ridiculous...

Does anyone know of heat problems using the Quadro fx go1400 GPU with a Sager NP9880?
I solved the problem for me. The cooler of the CPU was totally covered with dust where the air goes in. I had to remove the heatsink from the cpu in order to mention that and clean it. So if I wouldn't have looked there my would've been broken in a few weeks. That's disgusting in my opinion. Normally ppl shouldn't forced to do stuff like this with their nb especially if they don't have a clue about what they are doing...

I just got my compressed air and cleaned out the vents and played a game. I experienced no slowdown. Not sure if the problem is fixed, but I'll test it more later once I'm done with my homework.

Fingers crossed for you...

Do you elevate the laptop in anyway so the fans on the bottom get lots of air? Just poped in my head as something that might help, saw one of theose notebook risers today.

With my notebooks I usually take off the HSF and replace whatever is under it with some good silverbased stuff like AS5. After doing this to all of my laptops I've noticed a lot less fan noise and 0 problems.
Oh yeah, and when the HSF is off its good to clean it good and get all the dirt around the edges of the fan too.
was reading the post and was wondering where you would get a laptop cooler and some AS5?

www.newegg.com carries quite a few.
I saw a review which showed the Coolermaster cooler comming out on top since it is alumnium and acks like a heatsink. mind you this was 1 review, and I am having trouble finding more.

Thanks

Aside from dirt, it can also mean its time to scrape off the old AS5 and reapply more? Personally..I wouldn't risk it being so close to end of warranty..if Warrantech takes it over you have to pay up front if it crashes and burns on you.. Send it to Sager where it will only cost you shipping while your in warranty..
