5670 Ethernet = Dead

Hello,
The ethernet card on my 5670 seems to be dying. Is there any hope to replacing it, or should I go with a PCMCIA ethernet card if I need an ethernet connection?

Going with the card would be much cheaper than repair of the unit as it would probably entail a Mother Board replacement costs several hundreds of dollars.

Yep Gary is correct. The fix for the ethernet port is a new mobo on the 5670. When the video died on my machine it was about $400 USD for a refurbed 5670 board with a 90 day warranty plus labor. All together about $600 for that. I'd go pickup a pcmcia card. You may also try new drivers. They will sometimes work for a while.

what are signs of it going bad? I beleive I am having a similar issue. My connection seems to cut in and out about every 10 minutes or so.

that would be one of them. When you say cut out. Do you mean drop connection as in get a disconnect notice or the limited or no connectivity popup?

The connection is lossy. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I'm guessing it's just a loose wire.

Regardless, my whole 5670 is dying. Video card is overheating somehow, and I doubt I have the ability to fix it, so I am probably going to get a new motherboard. Now, should I stick with the 5670 or upgrade to 5690...
