If so, I'm guessing it's hardware....
Good luck with Sager. Hopefully they'll share something other than sending it in for repair. I'd like to hear if it is something other than hardware....thank you
Yes, at one point i remember seeing the card reader in all the OSes, but i did not test any cards because my main os is MCE2005.

I dont know about sager, i hope they can help

As as a last resort i reflashed the BIOS with the latest version. Still no card reader. Playing phone tag with Sager, i will see if they have anything new to add.

"Send unit back for warranty." And while they're at it, have them replace that defective mobo with the latest version so it'll support the new video....;-) You might just wait to ship it back if that becomes necessary until that new mobo is definitely out (I think it's not avail yet.) Chances are they'd still replace it w/the same rev but it's worth a shot lol ;-)

My thoughts exactly, i will probably bump up the memory and see what the 3.8 processor costs. At the rate i am at it will take 2 to 3 weeks of phone tag with Sager before they respond. I think that is this is the last resort. Is the delivery schedule still Nov 1st for the new motherboard 7800 GT upgrade?

Not bashing Sager at all, they have been responsive, but they dont follow the call time that you specify when you fill out the trouble ticket on there website.

Thanks.

No, they don't follow times. I've called Sales and then asked to be put on hold for tech support telling them I was having probs getting in touch (playing phone tag.) Might still work but I think they're getting VERY busy with the new laptops . As for the new mobo, no idea, just guessing it's going to follow the 9890 which I believe starts shipping next month.
This is your third (?) 9880?? Heck, if so I would be asking for a 9890. Sounds like a lemon almost.

Actually, this is the third different laptop!! The first 2 had bad screens and with multiple dead pixels and the last one had a big white spot in the in the lower section of the screen middle left to be exact. This is actually the only problem so far with this laptop, but oh what a problem. I use the sd card slot almost daily to transfer image to my treo

Finally got ahold of Sager tech support yesterday. Went through all my steps to try and fix the issue. Had me check for enhanced and mass storage usb drivers in the device manager, both showed up. It looks like my machine has to go back, its RMA TIME. Bad news is that the card reader is seperate from the mother board, i thought maybe i could get a 7800 mother board but i guess not. Hopefully the fourth time is a charm and it wont have to go back to So Cal again.

yuk...4 times sounds like a lemon.... I think i'd be looking into some sort of lemon law on google....that's a lot of shipping costs not to mention the time w/o the laptop.

Not sure where to post this, and didn't wanna make a new thread:
I've got some card reader problems on my 9860.
Just bought a 2GB SD Card x150 (Transcend) and when I tried to format it (FAT), it only showed the 1st 1GB. The other 1GB showed up as bad sectors or not viewable.

So I tried formating it in my buddy's external flashcard reader (generic 3in1 usb). No problem, i'm back to 2GB. I start writing files onto it, still using his reader, to fill it up 2 GB and still no problems.

I put the card back in the sager. I can write upto 1 GB. After that it wont let me and I get errors. I fill up the rest of the card up on external reader and stick it back in the sager. I can't read the files that were put on after the 1GB, yet I can read the file before the 1GB.

The sager built in card reader doesn't seem like 2GB cards. 1 GB cards will probably be ok. I think it might be a limitation of the reader itself. I've searched for drivers or firmware if they exist with no luck.

Would anyone have any insight? I have the lastest intel chipset drivers installed. I haven't tried using a different brand yet, but I think it won't help as I have a feeling its the reader hardware.

Sounds like a call to Sager would be the best answer. As you say, it may just be a limitation of the hardware (since the card works in something else other than the Sager.)

Hello paragoat, I hope you have resolved your problems.

I have a question I hope you can help in clarifying something,
your motherboard processor is 3.4 650 Processor which is 64 bit but 9880 is a 32 bit machine and you are running 64 bit operating systems windows XP 64

I know the performance will not be the same as if you were running the os ona true 64 bit motherboard but how is XP 64 when you run it on a 32 bit motherboard with a 64 bit processor, does it run as fast as XP 32 bit ? quicker or slower? and also how does it compare to the Vista Os you are running?

is that Vista you are running is 32 bit or 64 bit?

thanks in advance,

Wael

No resolution yet, because i have not sent the machine back to Sager yet

I am running the Vista 32 bit, because i cant find 64 bit RAID/ATA drivers that will work with Vista 64 bit.

The performance of the XP 64bit is probably 15 -25 % better than the 32 bit versions at best. You can really see the difference in the 64 bit apps. They really run fast compared to the same software in 32 bit mode. BTW, they give you 2 versions of IE so it is really easy to see the difference. If i had to compare Vista and XP 64 i would say they are close to being the same with the slight edge to Vista. BUT, Vista is far from a complete operating system like XP 64 so the edge goes to XP 64.

Hope this helps.
