This has been an ongoing issue in the ubuntuforums.org. It's been submitted as a bug to the ubuntu developers. For whatever reason, firefox is extremely sluggish in ubuntu. Ont the other hand, it works fine in windows.

The only browser i've ever used that renders pages quickly is opera. plus is caches your history so you can instantaneously go back to previos pages you visited. Tab switching is also instant. Firefox doesn't cache pages well and anything you do in the UI is sluggish. I also noticed that the gestures are really slow in firefox (and slow on windows). Opera recognizes gestures instantly.

no i switcehd from ie to firefox cause IE was a pile of shit. MS didnt integrate it correctly at all and it caused major secuirty problems. im using konqueror now for the most part and i love being able to have folders/websites open in the same window.

but ephiphany is not like this. when i said it had better integration, i was just talking about that it was designed to work for gnome while firefox was designed to work in windows. drag and drop, file saving, etc. all work better when using konqueror/epiphany in kde/gnome.

Oh dont get me wrong I have nothing against Opera... But right now what you are describing sounds much more like a problem in the version of Firefox Ubuntu uses than with firefox itself. For instance my Gentoo Machine runs firefox rather well IMO.

To each their own though I suppose.

now thta you mention a delay in switching between tabs and going back, i can notice a slight delay, but it's so slight, i can deal. seriously, i would not have ever noticed had you not pointed it out to me.

are the ubuntu dev's working on a fix for ff? does the 1.5 beta fix it?
