Overclocking Amilo M3438

Thread Starter
Hi everybody, I have Amilo M3438. It's a pretty good laptop, powerfull and well designed. Using "Centrino Hardware Control" program is very easy to underclock and undervolt the processor, which is very usefull for office applications and watching movies. But when you are playing games you need power. I was trying to find a way to overclock the processor (Pentium M 750, 1,86 Ghz), without any success. I cannot find any SETFSB and Clockgen, which supports the chipset and clock generator of this laptop. I also failed to find any multiplier mod for Dothan. If somebody has succeed to overclock the processor of this great laptop, please, share your knolledge!

I don't think you can overclock the way that you descripe but there is a thread about how to overclock by pin-mod your cpu, read here:

Hi Valld.

I'm also VERY interested in (somehow) overclocking the CPU, and under-clocking the GPU as the stuff I do is very system resource heavy and I don't use the graphics (for stuff like games) at all.

Does anyone know if there is any way I can throttle back the graphics to its absolute minimum (in terms of data bandwidth usage and power usage)?

....And secondly, how to overclock the Pentium CPU?

Are there no third-party software progs to somehow gain access to the Pentium CPU to overclock it? The standard BIOS in the Fujitsu M3438G is locked like Fort Knox, and therefore useless.

The BIOS is indeed rather modest, and that's putting it nicely...

I only wonder what the BIOS in the AW Area-51 m5700 will look like? Since it's the same model basically: http://www.alienware.com/product_det...de=SKU-DEFAULT

If it would be more lavishly optioned, maybe we could somehow flash our Amilos with it?
Maybe someone in the AlienWare boards could help us on this?

I was thinking along the same lines RuptuReD... Not that I know anything about the way bois works but, I would have thought Alienware would have spent a few sheckles on developing the bios etc for the laptop before releasing it and maybe squeeze a little more power out of it and that we could possible borrow the software for our machines... that is if the hardware is the same inside the Area 51...

What do you think, could the chassis be the same but the components be of a higher quality inside the M5700?

The AlienWare is identical with the Amilo as far as I can see (doesn't seem to have the kickass remote we have, though ).

Chassis same but different innards? Looks like the other way around.

Looks like the Alienware lappie is nearly identical.

So, are you saying that Alienware's laptop has a decent, tweakable bios, or that they have also locked it but optimised/overclocked it beforehand?

Is there any way we can get Fujitsu to release an unlocked bios?

Are there any third-party programs we could run to tweak the CPU/system via a 'backdoor' to the bios, or over-riding the bios?

1. I don't know what the AW BIOS looks like, I've gotten the impression that the M5700 wont get delivered before December. I'm just thinking that it can't be WORSE, can it?

2. Well, we could all just send them E-mails demanding better BIOS. Most likely wouldn't work.

3. Probably, can't name any just now though.

Anyone got a decent email address to Fujitsu, of relevance? They have completely avoided any email contact details on the UK branch of Fujitsu-Siemens.co.uk

I have the email for Fujitsu technical support (in Germany), but they say the BIOS is not their field. Understandably, theirs is more repairs and/or tech specification questions.

As a little bit of information that might be some interest, the clock generator in the M3438G/M4438G is the Cypress CY28442. (not 100% sure, however)
The motherboard chipset is Intel 915PM+ICH6M.

So if somebody spots a program that supports this combo, it might be a good idea to give it a test.

Alas, it seems that we can kiss goodbye for hopes of overclocking our Amilos by software.

I e-mailed the guy who maintains the SetFSB homepage about the possibility for adding support to our lappys and I got this message from him:
(He answered to my question VERY fast, by the way )

I checked the Cypress CY28442 datasheet. Your Fujitsu-Siemens M3438G laptop
cannot change FSB on software by a specification of the clock generator. To
my regret, I cannot support it.

(excuse my language)

Bugger.

Hi, I double checked with Fujitsu with regards to the model/version of the clock generator and they say:-

"The AMILO M3438G contains the clock generator ICS 954127 (TSOP pagage)."

Is that the Cypress?
Eh, sounds sure like it weren't. I'd imagine that it would be manufactured by this company http://www.icst.com/Default.aspx, judging from the name.

However, maybe I'm just dumb, but I couldn't find a product with that model name on their site.
Like I said before, I wasn't sure about the Cypress, I just heard it mentioned somewhere.

Looks like the only way to be 100% sure would be to open the lappy and physically locate it and hope it has model markings on top.

I can't either. Grrr... Looks like www.ICST.com is certainly the manufacturer, though. I'll email them.

here's a link where you will find a lot of informations about this PC including photos!!

Systool supports the ICS 954127 but it does not work on the Amilo M3438G. Can“t anyone who dont care about the warranty open thiers up and look at the chip it self?
