Hey all,

I always get intel cpu from since a long time.

Now, i need to build a desktop and need your opinions.

Which is the better cpu for playing today ?

All people seems to claimed athlon 64 is so far better for playing.

Thx for your opinions.

amd without a doubt, intel is way behind in gaming power and practically everything else nowadays

So I was looking at building a new rig and I saw socket 479 ... so wtf is this?

Can I plug a socket 478 card in this and have it work? or is this intel's way of saying if you want to make a pci express rig you gotta not only buy a new mobo but a new processor too?

Speaking as a long-time AMD chip user:

AMD has left the building, and looking down the street Intel has yet to get to the parking lot of the building.

No matter what criteria you use, AMD either beats or equals Pentium performance. In a few categories, Intel may squeak out a win but generally AMD is the chip to get. And if you are going to game....get AMD. Intel is not in the ballpark let alone the same building.

AMD and socket 939 and Nforce4...you cannot lose. Intel has a confusing variety of chips and chipsets chasing a market that is increasingly choosing the simple solution of AMD socket 939 and a Nforce board. Socket 939 is basically future-proof and available right now, suited for AMD's single and dual-core chips. I am very much afraid Intel cannot say the same.

AMD is clearly better but I'll always be an Intel fanboy .

I've never had a problem with Intel so I try to stick with them. But I'm thinking of trying AMD the next time I buy/build a system.

you can not go wrong with any.

Usually its the underdogs that provide better performance but the leaders are a safe buy.

I have always used pentiums and recently got an amd. I would say AMd's are best for desktops.

BTw how many AMD intel threads have been opened up here??? WHy not just post it there.

Wow, a majority with amd

I'll try AMD for the first time then, thx all for infos.

BTW, i'm building a custom made desktop, AW are too slow for orders, and i want to build it myself, ill be sure about all components quality.

I just bought a dell lcd widescreen, those are really great and good promotions actually in belgium.

BTW, since te monitor can't get higher than 1280*1024, i won't go with SLI configs, the 7800 gtx will be handle to support this resolution with high details.

Regarding AMD and their "reliability." I used to be of the opinion that all AMD processors are crap because of their XP line, but the 64 processors are very nice.

Yes AMD benchmarks better, but if you compare similar AMD and Intel processors you will not see much of a difference when playing games.

I never tried AMD I am an Intel kind of guy. This reminds me of the ever going argument between ATI and Nvidia which is faster the world may never know. There will always be Intel fans and there will always be AMD fans. This also reminds me of different consoles but we won't go there.

It would be nice though to have a matching AMD system so my AREA-51 don't feel so lonely also just to say you have 2 AW

Peace out

Good advice right there....the new chip based on the M is wicked.

Right now AMD is king of the hill. However, next year when Intel brings the Crusoe CPUs to market, all bets are off simply because Crusoe is a radical architecture change for Intel.

As redphyve noted, the pipe and prefetch resemble the Yonah Pentium M more than any Pentium 4. Couple that with an on die memory controller (Intel learns from AMD here) and, IIRC, on die graphics controller and this is a wicked CPU. AMD is going to have to step up because simply releasing more iterations of the current architecture is not going to do it.

Aks me, I'm a million more baby, in a couple of weeks. My FX-53 system will be put together and i can compare it with my 3.73 EE system. I could borrow one of my 6800U's from sytem 1 to make it even in the vid-card dept.

Desktop - AMD and Nvidia chipset. Hands down bar nothing, and I own the Intel side of things. When DDR2 sockets come for AMD, this puppy is gonna get changed out for AMD.

That is almost like an oxymoron

What ever anyone says AMD's FX 57 beats the top of the line Intel in gaming, have you seen the comparison between the SLi Dell with the Intel CPU and another computer (same card ect) with an AMD CPU in the same category as lintels.
