Overclockix help

I'm going to feel like an ID10T asking this, but has anyone ever used this version before?
http://overclockix.octeams.com/

I'm thinking about jumping ship (from windows to Linux), and I saw this disto, and It looks interesting, but i dont know if a noob like me should make the jump... any suggestions?

it's an awesome distro, though you would do better to discuss this on ocforums.com, where the overclockix admin (is that the right word?) is a member and you can talk to him there. i haven't it tried it yet but i've heard nothing but good things about it.

ya, ive talked to the dev before and hes pretty cool. overclockix is a nice distro but it is NOT for windows converts. maybe something like kubuntu or suse.

Thanks for the inputs, but I do have one more question, the only reason why i havent jumped ship eariler is b/c i'm a gamer, 65% of my time on my computer is spent playing games, the other 35% is broken up between surfing the net, writing report for school, email, and misc... do you know if there is a good distro that handles gaming well? or would i be better of sticking to win XP?

cedega supports many games, and from what i've heard it works really well for most games. i know for a fact steam works in linux, far cry, doom3, and i'm not sure about the rest. if you game a lot, get a dual-boot working and just keep you games in windows and your work in linux.

ive played cs:source under linux before, but performance is not the same as windows. all that stuff you listed like browsing and word processing is better under linux. pretty much anything other than gaming is better under linux. its fun to use/learn linux so i would suggest that you just have both on your computer like i used to do.

another thing, a year ago before i switched, i used to game a lot in windows. but now, i had to remove the windows partition and i havent even bothered reinstalling it again. I just feel that the quality of games under windows has gone down a lot and i jsut dont enjoy it anymore.

BTW: doom 3 and UT2k4 run great on linux so you can run those fine. hl2 runs OK, and bf2 isnt supported yet AFAIK.

ut2004 runs very sweet on linux. Hella nice... Performance is better than on windows regarding ut2004. Overclockix sounds like a distro for raw hw performance (686 performance, oc tools and stuff). Regarding COunter strike source it runs decently under linux if you update your cedega installation as soons as transgaming releases and upgrade and make suer you have the latest glibc installed

I'm probably going to get beat down for this but here it goes, I know linux is free, but what about the other program like wine or cedega?
wine is free, cedega costs $5/month. you can get cedega from cvs, but then it's partly broken so it doesn't really work.

i believe that any game that runs better on nVidia (OpenGL) runs better on Linux. games running better on ATI (DirectX) don't run very well on Linux. Oh yeah, if you have an ATI card, don't even bother trying to do graphic stuff or game, cause ATI cards are do not support linux very well. But def dual boot linux/windows no matter what, cause while its easier to game on windows, linux does everything else way better, plus its nice to really tweak out your system, the GUI's are sooooo much better (long live fluxbox!), and c'mon, they have a Penguin as their mascot! what does windows have, that stupid window lookin thing? how creative

Can you stop basing ati
My ex radeon9600mobility with 64vram runs wow via cedega at 1280x800 at high settings (1gb ram) perfectly. it is ok with ati as long as you recompile the kernel

Arkaine23 at ocforums has done a great job with overclockix and it is a great live cd with many powerful utilities, however I don't think it is a good choice for installing to a hard drive.

Right now my favorite distro is Ubuntu, especially for people who aren't as experienced with Linux. The default installation is very thourough without being bloated, and the packages are well maintained, I have rarely had a problem with apt-get.

As far as games, it depends on what you play, as several people have said games liek DoomIII, UT1999/2003/2004, WoW and others play well in linux some natively and some with Cedega, but other games just have major issues, so you would want to do research on the specific games you want to play.
