ugh. memory problems, probably?

Damn. My lappy just crashed again with Dell's flavour of the BSOD. Big white writing in the upper left corner saying

'Memory Parity Error
Contact your hardware vendor for support
The system has been halted'

or something to that effect. Apart from the almost-strongbad-reference, this is kinda worrying. Because I'm using aftermarket ram and so Dell won't be rushing out to help me (love that next-day onsite warranty when I've needed it, though).

I'm just wondering if other peeps have ever got this message, and what it could be indicative of. I mean it mentions memory right in there, so that's my intelligent guess...

Run memtest+86 overnight to check for errors. I also got defective aftermarket, ram from Kingston. Bluce screens ect. My replacement 2 gig sticks tested out o.k. overnight.

I don't mean to be harsh, but why exactly did you spend all this money on the lappy and then gave it aftermarket RAM?

Yeah, sounds like you do have a RAM problem...

Because he's not stupid and didn't want to pay Dell twice as much. A lot of people ungraded their ram aftermarket and are doing fine, this guy just got a bad stick. It happens.

#1. It's 1/2 to 1/3 the price that Dell charges for RAM.

#2. It works flawlessly for most users, including me.

Edit: That's post #1000 for me . . . Time to get a life, I guess!

Cause dell charge crazy amounts to upgrade ram. I bought it with 2x256MB sticks cause that was cheapest, then swapped them out.

And I'm a bit confused you think I spent 'all this money' on mine. I got a loan to buy this because it was one of the only laptops that was powerful enough for me (I'm doing my honours building up a VR engine). The I9300 is one of the best bang-for-buck laptops out there, moreso if you know what Dell is overcharging for...

Oh, maybe I misread. I thought he bought some no-name RAM from the no-name seller.
No one buys RAM upgrades from Dell unless they are independently rich

Guys, you are quick..I'd better be careful..

Anyway, I've got Kingston 6000A and it is a wonderful RAM. $130 for 2x512MB, $200 for 2x1GB.

Oh noes! I just had another crash but with my original dell memory!

This time I copied down the message:
Quote:
*** Hardware Malfunction
Call your hardware vendor for support
NMI: Parity Check / Memory Parity Error
*** The system has halted ***
Anyone seen this thing before?

Since I'm also experiencing the 'crazy-diagonal-wallpaper-of-death' my new suspect is the video card. I'll get on to Dell tomorrow, I think, and hopefully get a replacement on monday...

It looks like video card rather than RAM.
