Luke,

You said the reason behind no media center option for the np5720 was that it would not support it, but I knew that Clevo.com said in the specs that it was supported and I found a company allowing that option. It's web url is :
http://www.gamepc.com/shop/custom.asp?rig=noteb5300. Could you pull some strings and get it supported? Please tell me your thoughts. I really appreciate them because through reading your answers to others I have learnt a lot. If this isn't ever going to be a possibility with your company, could you please be so kind to point me in a good direction?
Anyone else got any ideas?

Clevo's website says alot of things . It is SUPPOSED to be supported but we are still waiting for the word back from Clevo on a definite yes or no... but until there is a definite yes, the answer is no.

Sorry; but the link provided DOES NOT provide the TV Tuner required for the MCE. It does; however, allow you to purchase MCE as an operating system. Why would one but MCE as an operating system if the TV Hardware didn't support it? Now, if you were buying an external MCE certified tuner, that would be different. Also, that site is super expensive - IMHO.

Are you sure that the card they are offering is internal and not a PC-CArd/PCMCIA?

Yes

Yes, to ChadLittle and for G-Omaha, I know they don't offer it, but I was figuring on getting the notebook hopefully through some one else because of the money factor and getting the adaptec dual tv tuner which now is sold by gateway separately. Anyway, one tv tuner isn't enough and since they don't offer dual tv tuners yet in notebooks, why not go external and get what you want.

The Sager NP5720 TV tuner is NOT compatible with Microsoft Windows XP Media Center 2005. I know because I tried it. You get the following error when you try to set the region to "United States". You don't get this error if you set the region to Taiwan but then, unless you are actually in Taiwan, you won't pick up any TV signals either.

===ERROR
unsupported region
the tuner hardware does not support the tv format for your region. you may need to install different tuner hardware that supports the appropriate tv format.
===

Since you can't set the region, you can't download the program guide or scan for channels. Also, even if it worked with MCE (which it doesn't), the remote doesn't work with MCE anyway so you won't be able to control MCE with it.

The TV tuner only works with its own software (Lifeview DTV) and its own remote.

Regards,
Lawrence

Wow look at the prices they charge for the OS. Twice what everyone else charges.
