915GM Chipset Question

Hello!

Okay, according to what I've read here this chipset (not to be confused with the 915GMS) doesn't support a graphics card....

BUT...

The intel website says that it does!--->

http://indigo.intel.com/compare_cpu/...&culture=en-US

"Discrete Graphics: PCI Express x16"

(just like the 915PM but not the 915GMS or 910GML)

And off the product page--->

http://www.intel.com/products/chipsets/915gm/index.htm

" PCI Express Bus Architecture: Enables the next generation of discrete graphics and I/O. Delivers up to a 4 times increase in discrete graphics bandwidth and 2 times the I/O bandwidth. Also supports the latest industry peripherals like ExpressCard*. Low pin count offers maximum bandwidth per pin."

Enables? Doesn't excatly confirm anything, so I'm a little confused.

Anyway what are your thoughts?

i dont really see what your question is...

the 915gm chipset has a expresscard slot (e.g. pci-e for laptops)
prosumably having 4x graphics bandwidth & 2x i/o bandwidth (over agp or their built in intel graphics 9xx i dont know)

so pretty much the 915gm has a 9xx video core, but the option for the pci-express "expresscard" laptop video card
while the 915pm doesnt have the built-in graphics, but allows for the pci-e 'expresscard' addition

Ooops. Sorry.

Can it or can it not have discrete graphics?

what does "discrete graphics" mean to you?

based on google search, http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...=Google+Search

it looks like "discrete graphics" is any hardware based graphics solution
e.g. any video card on a laptop
so any video card option you can have
in the 915gm case, its either the GMA900 or another card (x300,x600,x700, 6200, 6600, 6800, 7800gtx)

The GMA 900 is integrated - I thought the discrete was a separate card (eg ATI Radeon X600). That's what I've read everywhere. That you had integrate or discrete graphics for a laptop. Now with the 915GM - it definately has the integrated graphics - but the intel site says that it supports discrete graphics as well (that's what my first post was about). All the other 915/910 chips only has one or the other.

Has anyone seen a laptop with discrete graphics with a 915GM chip?
