First, let us know what graphics card you have.. is it ATi or Nividia? For Nvidia, I recommend CoolBits and for ATi, I recommend ATi Tools. Both programs can find you your max core and memory, but you can also do it manually and just test for artifacts each time you notch up the clock speeds. I suggest raising the clock speeds little by little.. like by 5 at a time to make sure everything is stable. If you start seeing artifacts on your screen.. that means you've gone beyond your gpu's limit. Set the clocks back down if you do see distortions. There's no need to open up your notebook when you overclock your gpu, as this process is through software. As for overclocking the cpu.. I haven't done this, so I can't help you out there.
