bkray1. Our friend qhn is right. But at some future point there won't be any more updated drivers. Then it's nice to know about your options when you're desperately giving CPR to your beloved Ferrari..
.
The Catalyst package is for desktop graphics cards. To make it work with the Mobility laptop cards you can use the Mobility Modder (especially useful for x64-drivers) or you can use the ATI Mobility Radeon driver.

1. ALWAYS keep a working previous version as backup when trying a new driver.
2. If the new driver doesn't work you can try to clean up "Catalyst-leftovers" with MSI Cleanup Utility" from Microsoft.
3. You can also try with reinstalling the AGP-driver in the VIA Hyperion package.

If it's not broken, don't fix it... but read the release notes to find out about new features and fixed issues.
(I've now updated the links in the graphics section.)

Hi Kej and Qhn,

Thanks for the info. The current drivers I have are the last set that Omega released, which have been out for awhile. I seem to do ok with them, however I tried to play Overlord 2 and it just crashed on startup each time. I wonder if shader 3 or whatever is required for that game. If so it may never work. At any rate, I was semi-hopefull that updated video drivers would help. I did find the legacy 9.3 drivers as per your link Kej. I may try those out as there are probably some improvments over the old omega releases.

On a different note, Has anyone installed Windows 7 on a Ferrari 3400. I'm wondering if i should stick with xp (never upgraded to vista) or try out 7.

Thanks

Whatever it works for you, stick with it.

But it is always fun to try out something new, to see if one comp can handle it or to learn something.

Thanks for the feedback.

Help with ferrari

Hi all,

My ferrari 3400 may be experiencing a slow death of the video card. I have been noticing weird graphic glitches. I have the latest legacy drivers installed. Was thinking about trying the new Cats if i can figure out he modding process, but i had a few questions first:

1) How do I regulate the internal Fan for the 3400? I want to make sure it is still working and has not failed.

2) Is there any way to test a video card for issues? Any input would be great.

THanks.

You can try using RMClock to check out fan working condition. Sound to me you just need to take it apart and give the comp a good clean up and new thermal paste.

Video card testing? Beat me, use an external monitor and see if any differences before writing it off. And just stay with a simple driver that works and leave it alone.

ok, thanks. I'll see if i can figure out how to take it apart and clean it. I've never done that to a laptop before.

DVD drive

It looks like my DVD drive needs replaced. Can I replace it with one that is similar or does it need to be the exact part. I can't seem to locate a replacement. I am trying to reinstall the operating system and it will not boot to the drive even though its enabled in the BIOS. Can i install an exernal Cd-Rom and boot to that to install windows? Thx for any advice

Yes to the similar optical drive model, and yes to an external optical drive as boot up option.

Hi qhn,

I'm having difficulties getting the external CD-rom to serve as the boot drive. It always just boots straight to windows. I've made a slipstreamed windows XP3 disk. The external usb cdrom will recognize the contents and i can start the autoplay from that drive. If i move the disk to the internal dvd drive, it doesnt recognize any of the files. My bios is set to boot from cd first then HD. Any advice how i can enable the boot to occur from the external? I'm drawing at straws now. Thanks so much in adb=vance for your help.

Try remove the internal optical drive first?

Hello again,

Thanks for the advice, but I've decided to call it quits with the 3400. Purchased a macbook pro laptop and getting that set up now.

Hi

My beloved Ferrari 3200 has lost its FerrariWp.exe.....
I ran a routine virus check today, which claimed FerrariWP.exe was infected with a virus, and as there was no option to clean the file, I let my virus checker delete it in the safe knowledge that I could download the installer from acer.

And then discovered that I can only find wallpaper images wherever I look....

Could someone send me the core program files or an installer if one exists? (The virus checker killed three things, a registry entry, the exe and something else...I think an ini file, but I''m hoping just getting hold of the base folder with its contents and running the exe will sort everything out)

Thanks!
Ramsey
