Remote Control and Linux

I'm running Ubuntu 5.10 on a Sager 8890. Since it comes with a remote control I'd like to be able to use it!

Has anyone had any luck getting any sort of remote control working on Linux? I'd also like to be able to bind the buttons in the front panel of the computer (Prev Track, Next Track, Play/Pause, stop and volume controls) so that they do something. Mostly I just want to be able to use them for music playback (I use amaroK).

Any ideas?

If it's like the 56xx series they work only while the DJ is working. Even windows can't see them. The volume controls on mine are way to bouncy to be used in linux without major tweks to the timing. As for remote I have no clue I've never tried it.

I can map the DJ buttons to work in Winamp using a plugin called RM-X.

Welp there may be hope for you then. I wish I could do that with mine. Look in the gnome control panel for keyboard shortcuts or something along those lines. I seem to recall that you could map buttons in that.

You know that actually worked. I never thought it would have without some outside plugin!

Anyway I can map shortcuts to those front buttons as well as my remote.

Thanks.
