I've noticed that in the two main A05 BIOS threads, one for XPS and one for the 9300, there's a lot of mixing of XPS/9300 reports which is probably making it hard for people to discern a consensus on the issue.

Lets make this easier.

(M170 owners, you have an XPS)

XPS

I have been running A05 for a while now without issue. I game, I watch movies, my desktop is 3800x2400, I've used various video driver versions, I do all kinds of stuff. My temps are the same that they were in A04.

same here, no problems at all.

Doc once again proving why he's my hero. I was thinking about how great it would be if someone posted a poll post on the A05 results. Haven't downloaded them yet, waiting to see the outcome of this thread.

Here too, no problems at all.

i use i9kfangui to control temps, so nothing is different, works fine w/ 9300.

My idle temperature is 18C cooler with A04 than it is with A05. I think it's fine for you guys with fangui to say that your machine is running cool after over-riding the fan settings, but what about the multitudes of people that will download the Bios update without doing that? FWIW, 18C is 64F. That's huge. There will probably be people trashing their laptops all over the place before Dell realizes they screwed up. I don't feel a need to manually override my fan settings (I've already undervolted my CPU). I'll stick with A04 which is a much safer Bios than A05, IMHO.

My temps are higher on average. About 10 degrees on the CPU and 5 or 6 on the GPU. But the components can easily take this, my CPU fan spins up one my CPU temp hits about 55 and within seconds I'm back down to the low 40's. My laptop gets about 23 minutes more on battery now, and that's a noticeable improvement.

*EDIT - Remember that our Dells tend to run very cool, look at the alienwears for an example of a 'hot' laptop.*

Is it only me that is a bit suspicious of the rapid cooling effect that these fans have after having runned just a few seconds? Could it be that the sensors are infact affected by the air rushing by rather than just the temp of the component, or are the fans really this effective?

XPS - not problems here...

Battery life doesn't matter to me and temperature is very important. My 9300 came with A04. I'll wait until you guys clear it out for everybody.

Not problems; a little more temp but less noise and dust in the cpu fan; the gpu fan spin like before.

at the moment nothing seems wrong.. flashed the bois last night for the famous "30 minutes extra battery life" ran the battery down and got the usual 2 hours (im on a 6 cell) temps are still the same really.. 36cpu and 51gpu but i've also been overclocking and benchmarking the system and seeing it rise to about 65almost 70 when running BF2 or 3dmark05... celsius by the way.. this is fairly expected though yes?

Flashed to A05 last night, 20min later machine crashed. Rebooted, memeory failed the post test. Tried both sticks one at a time, both failed at a few different addresses. 2 * 1GB Crucial memory dead within 20min of the BIOS flash.

Stuck in a stick of spare 256, flashed back to A04 and i'm now running on 2 * 256MB until Crucial complete my RMA.

Good job Dell.

I think it is intentional.

Dell wants you to buy a new laptop every two months.

So they do what they can.

Yeah, I think it is intentional..

I do notice my ram area gets as hot as the damn wireless card now. So lol I got a usb fan and stuck it down there so like it's pointing at my crotch to cool the memory and wifi.... That's just ghetto but hopefully i won't fart and it'll kill me or something. Damn gas.

in combination with RightMark CPU Clock Utility, it works like a charm for me. Temps dont get too hot and so the fans never kick in which makes a big difference compared to what it was like before!!! Pure bliss! Its like as if I configured my laptop with the x300 gpu, but what I have underneath is the 6800. WoooHooo!

Nothing has changed for me, I still get white screen reboots occasionally. While it didn't introduce any new problems, it hasn't fixed my oldest one. But we all know there's only one solution to reboots...and I'm working with tech support on it.
