Hey guys I purchased my first laptop tonight (all the specs are in my sig) I've never really played any computer games and I was wondering what some games were that people recomended me to try out that will play ok on my laptop. Let me know and thanks for all the help.

you should be fine with basically any game, as long as you dont run it at max quality, max resolution, max effects, etc.

I'm guessing you can play basically everything but games like FEAR, BF2, etc.

My old desktop had a Geforce 4 MX420 64mb...it was a POS....but i played Halo, Far Cry, WoW, and Guild Wars on it, and they all played fine, graphics looked good too (although not SUPERB like they do on a 6800go).

And one more thing, if you havent overclocked your x300, you might want to look into it. I've heard that when overclocked, x300's can actually do better than the mobility 9700 (don't know the validity of this though, but either way, theres not a HUGE diff between the two cards)

world of warcraft

Like Wingzero said, you'll be able to play pretty much any game, but you'll have to run the latest games on low settings. I have a 6000 with similar specs (see my sig) and the BF2 demo runs perfectly on low settings at 1680x1050 (my native resolution).

I've also tried BF Vietnam, which plays great on high settings at 1024x768 (I couldn't figure out how to increase the resolution like I did for BF2). I haven't tried too many other games, but if the 6000 can handle BF2, it can handle just about anything!

Full version of BF2 will work just fine. I have the same video card as you. You may want to overclock it though. Look around the forums too. There are so many topics and replies about exactly what you are wanting to know. So search around and you'll prolly get what you need. But I can run BF2 just fine with my card OC'd.

The X300 should play any game, just not with high video settings.

I can play far cry on mine with the 64 mb X300 on low-med settings without much trouble. That was before I overclocked the crap out of the card too.

Games I can play with med or low settings with an ati x300 128 on my 16000d with a g of ram and a 725 PM:

Matrix Online
City of Heroes
City of Villains
Battlefield 2
F.E.A.R. Demo
Area 51

Im sure there are plenty more out you can play, but these are the ones I play alot and know for sure you can run no problem.

I play the high-end games just fine, albeit at lower resolutions...

btw...
Overclocking will void your warranty, right?
As far as I can tell overclocking shouldnt mess up your warranty, It is only a program.

Pin modding and actual hardware changes will though.

With graphic card property detail settings at their lowest possible (using ATI Tray Tools), AA and AF off, the x300 lags horribly (drops under 20 FPS) in Counter-Strike 1.6 (lowest detail settings in 16bpp color mode) OpenGL when 1, count em 1 smoke grenade is thrown at a native screen resolution of 1280x800 w/ latest ATI drivers 5.10. latest BIOS A09, latest intel chipset drivers, up to date Windows XP SP2, no spyware or viruses, nothing. System runs flawless otherwise.

And I have a relatively fast I6000D 1.6GHZ PM, w/ 1GB (2x512MB) Mushkin PC-4000 Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM, hitachi 7k60 60GB 7200RPM 8MB cache HDD.

The x300 blows goats. Everything about my system is pretty fast for a laptop except the GPU. I can sugar coat it all I want but the x300 sux, bad. My 4 year old Geforce2 64MB GTS card runs games almost as well.

The CS 1.6 smoke grenade test is the ultimate test. If your video card lags when one smoke grenade is thrown in CS 1.6, it's not a gaming video card.

With that said, just about any game runs great @ 800x600 with medium to low in game graphic settings and display adapter graphic settings turned all the way down.

sucks for u,
my i6000d runs CS2 at 1920 x 1200 and all setting at med and no AA

no lagging
