hard drive question

post #1 of 8

Do you have to get sager hard drives or will any notebook hard drive work in these computers? I have the sager 9860 with the first 6800 go, and a 60 gig 720 rpm drive... now would I be able to just plug in any hard drive and have them work together?

thanks

Any hard drive should work, you may have to do a jumper setting; but cable select should work.

You may need a frame of some sort...

Sager doesn't make their own hard drives. My Sager's HD is made by Hitachi. As long as it is the right size/type (2.5in notebook) any hard drive will work.

Now if you want them to work together you need a RAID configuration. I couldn't be of help with that I'm afraid.

I dont believe you'd have to reinstall windows. But I know theres a bios setting that will have to be turned on.

I don't use RAID but if you switch to RAID both drives will need to be the same size and rpm and Drive Type. You will have to chose RAID0 or RAID1.
Raid Explained
http://www.sohoconsult.ch/raid/raid.html

Either RAID will need to set up the drives and all your data on them will be lost. So you will have to reinstall Windows if you choose RAID. You can use PATA or SATA drives for RAID or ATA but you can't mix them up. You either use PATA drives or SATA drives.
In the BIOS
ATA = NO RAID
RAID = RAID
