Jeeeesch after all this waiting and anticipation.........She arrived and turned out to be a bitch. Tempermental and evidently hot headed....and a goddess.

Great computer (when it runs )

Many THANKS to Tom @PC Torque for his help and to Sager and their offer of sending me another....

Here is the problem........After it runs a while (10 minutes or so) it just shuts down. Bam!!! Thats all she wrote. Will not start up till at least another 10 minutes or so passes. Then it starts up and runs fine. Did this several times during the install. I thought it may have been me....not so. Definitly has a problem. If you pick it up while running it shuts down. Any jiggling at all it shuts down. Initially memory was suspected and then ruled out. It was later determined that I do indeed have a problem.

I called Sager friday after speaking with Tom @ PCTorque (who indicated that the 10 day return policy should be valid here), they called me back in about 3 hours. I was with a client at the time and really could not speak. They were supposed to call back did not. Tech did however say they would cross ship me another and gave me an RMA. Monday we'll try and finalise the particulars when they call me back.

My initial impressions with the computer are quite favorable when it works. I am very unsatisfied that mine arrived with a problem, but it IS a machine and a very complicated one. **** happens and things do break. The good news is that Sager did not quibble or give me grief but did offer to make it right. You cannot really ask for any more than that.

So until I get another........I'll just bide my time till she arrives. ( I have numerous other computers here so its not a problem , this one was just a Christmas for myself.

However it does indeed have a great screen, I have the Netgear wireless card installed for wireless and it basically self configured after I installed the software. Sound is quite good for a laptop. The fans kick on quite a bit but not objectionable. You can hear it but its more in the bacground and not overbearing. The unit is incredibly FAST. I look forward to getting one that works that I can leave on for a time longer than 10-15 minutes.

I will ask that the next one get shipped WITH XP Pro installed so that sager can see it run and have it running PRIOR to them shipping it out to me. I know they are supposed to check these things but I guess to really test it all with the OS that the OS needs to be installed ( just speculating as I am really clueless how this actually works, I assumed that they turn everthing on and try it all once during assy and if it works it passes )

All I can do now is wait till I comfirm everything with Sager Monday........

Fu Fu

After 3 kidz and 25+ years of marriage it will take a LOT more than a malfunctioning computer to get me "torqued"...... One thing you learn as you get older is .......p a t i e n c e.

Now, taxes on the other hand......grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

I just want to get this resolved Monday asap with Sager.
Hopefull I can get a new one before I go on vacation in 11 days.

Kinda sounds like the comptuer is overheating?

Be careful where you put your 4780. She is very heat sensivtive and if you have the fan vents blocked, like on you lap or on top of the notebook bag, it will cause the unit to shut down. Go ahead and ask me how I know this :P

If the fan vents are clear then its time to get a new one. I'm sorry to hear you are having this problem. I hope the replacement comes before your trip. I'm in the same boat as well.

PC Bunker

Not only are the fan vents clear, but in my shop I had build a small wooden "easle" with strategic hole cutouts to allow for maximum airflow even if I set it on the carpet. I've made the same device for all the laptops and they function quite well, are lite, and utilize no power. Also has a spot to store the power brick and mouse......

this one Sager of mine has a problem. I am currently attempting to complete the reformat using the "quick method".......It would shutdown on my during the long way. so that I can send it back the way I recieved it. Now at 96% so I think it will make it this time. Then I'll box it up and off she goes......

I hope the next one does well. If is does not that will end the Sager experiment. I believe it only fair to allow another chance. ( I've always had Dells, Compaqs, Sony's, before......and Zeus when they were in business if anybody can remember them..... )

It is important to realize that these are machines and they can malfunction. It serves no purpose to bemoan the manufacturor because I have recieved a product with a problem. It might not even be Sagers fault, something may not have been damaged in shipping? Or maybe a component is failing once it reaches a certain temperature? I know nothing of what is actually wrong, only the sympton is sufficiently bad enough for me to send it back.

Obviously many here are quite happy with theirs. I hope to join those ranks once I recieve a new system.

Until then, I remain agravated. But not at Sager, just at the fact that mine does not work.....

Its only fair that I do add that........

Both PC Torque and the manufacturor have been responsive to my issues thus far, and that is all one can ask. Obviously they will stand behind the product, and we will try this again a second time. From that perspective everyone else can feel secure that they DO backup the product.

( I've always had Dells, Compaqs before......and Zeus when they were in business if anybody can remember them..... )

So until my new one gets here......sigh.......I'll just keep playin' on the forum.

Man I miss those 'naners..<grin>
