Major display problem on a 500m

Kinda in wrong forum i know but this is the most heavily viewed forum and i need hardcore help.. My girlfriend left her 500m on last night and when she woke up this morning the screen was incredibly dark, so dark that it almost looks like the screen is off. You have to put your face right up to the screen to see the cursor. I tried to lay with the brightness and whatnot in the settings but no help. If this is a serious problem would it be the actual display or the VGA adapter which is just like the intel extreme graphic or whatever. The chip is putting out a display but you can barely see it on the screen is soo damn dark! PLease help!!!

Backlight has gone. Call dell and get a replacement. If you're out of warranty, it'll cost you, but it shouldn't be too much. Well, actually, the cable that supplies power and/or brightness settings to the backlight might be busted, too, but I don't think that's as common.

Don't fear, though, it should be an easy fix (once you get replacement parts).

For now, though, you might like to hook up an external monitor?
