I don't know if it is doing the right thing. I followed Doom9's instructions word for word and left my computer to do the encoding over night. By morning the first pass was only 42% done. I cancelled. Sorry i didn't write anything down. before i had a chance, the computer shut down on me. (i will never choose "shutdown windows after finished again!!")
So ive tried a few more times this morning: Here is the deal. In the VDM status window during the 1st pass, the "video data" is going at a rate of 1KB/sec. that seems way too slow. However, the "projected file size" is only 3613K. So it is going to take 1.5 hours. that's okay. Why is the file size so low? During 2nd pass, the "video data" rate goes waaaaay higher, to about 200KB/sec. That seems more like it. But the projected file size is more like 900MB. That seems more like what the 1st pass settings should be. I will let it go and see what happens this time. BTW is is the same for divx and xvid encoding. thanks.
