DELL EXPANDS ITS LAPTOP RANGE
13/10/2005

Targeting opposite ends of the spectrum, Dell has released an ultraportable laptop for the mobile user and a refresh to its powerful Inspiron XPS gaming system.

Offering mobility lacking from Dell’s consumer range is the Inspiron 630m. Weighing 2.5kg, Intel’s 915GM chipset allows for low power consumption. Dell claims a battery life of more than five hours for effective work on the move.

Integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth keeps users connected and the 14.1-inch TFT widescreen panel can be fitted with an antiglare TrueLife screen coating for high-definition images.

The higher priced model has an 802.11b network card! What's up with that! This is really disappointing, because it is a step in the wrong direction, I was really looking forward to standerdizing 802.11g, all we had left to do is to find a way to make it more compact to put into portable devices, (re: smartphones, pda's, psp)

That has to be a misprint. The lower model has it, there's no reason for the pricier one to lack it.

damn! i just bought my 6000d.. i would really consider this one as an option..
well, lets wait and see..

probably just comes with integrated vga card too..right? anyone know about it?

Mmmmm, 14.1 Truelife.
Hopefully this 14.1" TrueLife Display is more like the 700m, because that is an incredible display.

More info can be found here: http://dell.com/xps11
E-Value Codes: 6F902-D81112Y OR 6F902-D81112X

The link above is not live yet, but I have the November 2005 XPS Catalog... upon request I can scan and post the pics.

DELL XPS M140 / Inspiron 630m:
5-in-1 media reader
OPTIONAL 14.1" TrueLife display
SHARED DDR SDRAM (I guess they expect gaming from "intergrated graphics" LOL)
5.5lbs, about 1/2 pound more than the Inspiron 600m
According to the catalog, price starts at $999
LOOKS Like a Inspiron 6000 / 700m Hybrid (battery sticks out, keyboard and styling and colors like the I-6000)

Some pics would be highly appreciated! Thanks in advance! So, no dedicated graphics uh! That sounds plausible for the 630m, but the M140 should definitely have a dedicated gpu! Maybe the difference between those two notebooks will be the presence of decent graphics in the M140. What do you think?

I will most likely sell my 1.6 700m and get one after the dust settles a bit and there's been a bios revision or two.

5 in 1 media reader? It's about time!

I don't have scroll arrows on the touchpad of my 8600 too, but you can configure both horizontal and vertical scrolling on the control panel, so it's just an aesthetic problem, it still works

The latitude D505 doesnt have arrows, but the software for the touchpad lets it work. Personally I like the arrows gone, I know they're there, dont need to see them.

I wonder how this 14" widescreen notebook compares to the new Thinkpad Z series.
Kind of disappointed. It has that protruding battery. And I can't live w/o my serial port. It says the FSB is 400Mhz - is that mean it uses the older chipset?
