A Sundry of System Errors!

Thread Starter
Ok, so I've had my z70va for about a week now, it's kicking and customized to my liking, finally. However, after undervolting and installing all of these new programs, driver updates, tweaks, etc. there was bound to be a few troubles to arise, and arise they did. So I was hoping some of you could help me out. Here are my questions/issues:

1)First with CHC - I determined my min/max undervolting levels and intermediates with RMclock and ran the preliminary stability tests (both using prime95's and CHC's quick tests) with no problems. But upon switch back to CHC, I get all of these weird errors (e.g. Firefox quits either almost immediately upon startup or at random times, random error dialog boxes, etc). So I switched back to RMclock and have yet to have any problems like I was having with CHC (however, the problems below may be due to undervolting, perhaps RMclock just causes different errors...?). However, I like CHC's interface and popup temp readings, etc and though I can achieve a similar setup with a combo of RMclock and Asus probe, I'd prefer to consolidate. So is this new version of CHC (or NHC, as it's now referred) buggy or do I need to add an extra voltage buffer or something? I will be running a 12 hour prime95 tests while using RMclock just to double-check stability at some point, so perhaps I'm just unstable but the system stays OK at first for a few hours under RMclock and then breaks down, whereas CHC immediately causes instability. Hmm, not sure.

2)I received a most troubling error while gaming (undervolted with RMclock active, this could be the cause...or...). Randomly, my computer restarted after about 30 mins of gaming and I received this message: “System has recovered from a serious error” or something like that and then in the details it displayed this:

BCCode : 10000050 BCP1 : EA971A30 BCP2 : 00000000 BCP3 : BFB3F855
BCP4 : 00000001 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 2_0 Product : 768_1

I did a search on the net but couldn't come up with one solid answer – apparently there are a variety of causes. Two possible causes given what modifications I've done to the system are the video drivers (I have the omegas v2.671) or overheating – though I am pretty sure this is not possible because it's undervolted, but I didn't get a chance to check the temps because I wasn't running CHC and unable to access any programs before the restart anyways.

3)Some other random error messages:
a. I once received an error with Dwin.exe (something to do with error
reporting) when trying to access the add/remove panel
b. I occasionally get a dialog box that says “app failed to initialize
properly (0xc000000005)” or something along those lones
c. An error regarding generic host process for win32 – I think it was
about it quitting or something, can't quit remember
d. Finally, I get an error sometimes stating something like “unable to
run DLL as an app”

I also have some other miscellaneous questions:

A. Does anyone know if there is a way to accelerate the pointer motion of my synaptics touchpad? When you increase it under mouse properties it only affects my external mouse, and I can't seem to find a setting to tweak this under the “advanced” synaptic properties (there doesn't seem to be one). Not the biggest issue, but it would be nice if the pointer would move faster than a snail's pace when I'm not using my mouse.

B. For some reason, the quicklaunch button (or whatever it's called) that controls turning the touchpand on/off only sometimes works. Every now and then it won't respond, but upon restart it does again. I'm not sure how to tell whether I have the lastest drivers for Hcontrol (or whatever controls these quicklaunch buttons), but I'll dig around some more and see if the one listed on the Asus website is a newer version - that might fix this issue. Anyone else have something like this happen to them?

C. So these omega driver's seem to be causing some instability (I've seen a bunch of errors under my system log regarding them), how are the other, non-stock drivers out there? Which regular catalyst drivers work for the z70va and how do they compare to the Omega's in terms of graphical power boost?

In case this helps, here's a profile of my system:

Chembook 2370Va -V
15.4" WSXGA (1680x1050)
2.0 GHz Intel Pentium-M (760) Processor (Sonoma / 2 MB L2 Cache / 533 FSB)
Artic Silver 5 (AS5)
128 MB Ati Radeon X700 PCI-Express Video Card
1 GB DDR2 (533 MHz) CORSAIR Memory (1 GB x 1)
100 GB Hard Drive (5400 RPM)
8X DVD / 24x10x24 CD-RW Combo Drive
Internal IntelPRO 2915ABG Wireless Ethernet/Lan (802.11 a+b+g)
Internal Bluetooth Wireless Card
8-cell Smart Lithium Ion Battery

Currently using:
RMclock - undervolted to 6x 0.700V - 15x 1.100V
Omega Drivers - v2.6.71 (Cat 5.9)
Windowblinds v4.6

Alright, I think I've inundated you all with enough questions for the time being. No one has to answer them all at once ( unless of course you are able/want to ), I'd appreciate a response to just any one of these questions.

Thank You!

Sounds like your CPU needs more voltage. Just because something is prime95 stable doesn't mean it's stable. Let me explain, when you run prime your CPU is the only thing generating heat. Your heatpipe will wick the heat away and cool the CPU. I can be 100% sure but the Heatpipe that cool the CPU also helps out to cool the X700 which has a heatpipe of it's own too. So when you game there's extra heat in the CPU cooling heatpipe so it might be 5 degrees hotter. 5 Degrees might not be a lot but at 1.100volts it might be enough to make the CPU error.

So my advice is instead of using prime to test use the game that causes errors and use that to test for everything voltage change.

I highly suggest that you run Prime95's stress test for 12 hours. and when you have finally found the most stable voltages.. give it some added headroom by increasing the voltages to the next value.
