Mobile Reinforcements - The New AW Laptops Discussion Thread - Page 8

Hmmmnnn - the 5500 is really almost the laptop I was looking for when I got the XPS 2. Am willing to sacrifice gaming at highest settings for a bit less weight and better mobility.

Wonder why the 5700 is limited to the Go 6800 and not the Ultra (or, as others have said - the 7800)? Perhaps there will be options...

These probably won't entice me to sell the XPS 2, but will wait to see what the next news is.

Congrats, DB, on your Hypersonic. I hope you don't abandon us here at NBF-AW, as we would miss your warped view of the world too much!

ah fux laptops, they only die, you just have to look at these boards to find out 99.9% of most makes of lappys die when exposed to powa gaming and most seem to need external cooling to use properly ?

me id prefer if they made a mobile housing for meh 7500 so i can take that walkabout...

I'm with E.S. on this one. My plan was to get a desktop replacement when I got my 766 and not have to buy another desktop but after the heat issues that I had I decided to buy a desktop for gaming and now all I use my 766 for is development and surfing and stuff like that. I could have gotten a Centrino and had battery life and alot less weight.

I am glad AW is coming out with a full line of lappys, when its time to replace I won't have to go with a big heavy and hot desktop replacement I'll be able to choose one of the others.

I still am majority AW. I am just not a mindless AW Automaton.

Thanks Steve for making this thread...It's nice to know we're wuvved

I'm extremely interested to know if the MXM that is in the 5500 could handle a 6800 GPU...I'd just love to buy myself a nice laptop for Christmas

The 5500 looks nice. Portability is more important to me than performance so I'm looking forward to see what the new Sentia will look like.

But it's not like I'm looking to buy. I got my Sentia in March and I'm extremely satisfied with it.

Hey Steve, any plans for a 14" widescreen thin and light AW?
i really think AW wont be as stupid as to reveal a new line up of laptops and leave out the 7800 go. that would just be a stupid move, maybe if they announced the lineup 6 months ago then yea, but they couldnt possibly release new laptops without support for 78s. it would be stupid to even entertain the thought of them doing so.
So if i was all of you lot who buy laptops, i would take a deep breath and seriously think about it, a new AW gaming laptop without 7800go = not gonna happen...

I really like the look of the 5500...anybody know what machine it's based off? Looks like a uniwell, but Steve listed a WUXGA screen...And it looks pretty

Thanks for the info Steve, the 5500 looks awesome. The switchable graphics will really make the machine flexible. That sounds perfect for my wife as a travel/gaming lappy. She spends some time on the road with her new job, so it would be perfect for traveling with Dungeon Seige II, her mp3's, and IRC.

I'm also happy to see centrino mobiles in these things.

Now, I'm just waiting to hear about the big guns...

Hammer wants a new AMD power dtr.

Now that's a nice guy! (Btw, I just started Dungeon Siege II this weekend. Didn't like it much at first, but it's growing on me, and I like the fact that it's not on-line so it's good for travelling).

It took me a while to get into it, but once you figure everything out it's pretty awesome.

My wife and I are going to try the cooperative online game this weekend if I can find another cd key...

Personnally, i forgot gaming laptop forever, high cost and middle perf, right way is building one myself, i know what components are in and can upgrade as often as i want.

Aren't those pics backwards, because the one that says it is the 5700 looks more like the Uniwill 259E3 whereas the one that is labeled the 5500 looks more like the Fujitsu 4438 which has the same case minus the moniter backplate. Just wondering?
I still would recommend AW depending on what a person wants in a laptop. Alienware just has not stepped up to the plate with an offering that rivals the Hyper I ordered. I don't think anyone from Alienware can disagree with that. Now if they had at least announced they were coming out with a 7700 with AMD FX57 and X2 procs and Geforce 7800 GTX AW would have a leg to stand on in this level of laptop. The current 7700 just does not do it. The new lappys they announced sound nice other than not having a 7800 gtx in the 5500.

This looks like a two tiered rollout. The first tier being the Pentium M's and the second tier being the Intel and AMD DTR's.

As to the 5500, yes it is the Uniwill. What would be really cool for it would be (since it is a PCI architecture) to switch out the 6600 for at least a 6800 ultra if not a 7800.

AW web site says just that and they have made space for the Aurora lappy so we know it is coming...I will wait, AMD and the 7800GTX-M is all I am looking for, colors is not a big issue but it would be nice and I am sure, hope that it will be in that $6000 range thus competing with Hypersonic etc so I will wait a few weeks or month or so ...I think it is worth the wait, I just want to order before the end of the year...thus the tax depreciation for this year already, as this would be for work!!...HaHa..I work from home?
