Mobile Reinforcements - The New AW Laptops Discussion Thread - Page 11

Unfortunately the marketing for upgradable lappies has out distanced the tech by years. My 51m 5620D from Oct 2002 is still running well. When I purchased it I new that it was what it was and never expected more. I feel for all of you who thought the new desktop replacement systems would be upgradable like a true desktop. One day the Tech will catch up, but when I get a new 51m or Auroram, I'll be buying it with the mindset of it is what it is, and nothing more.

They are gonna wait until after this launch for announce their 17" new laptop with AMD and 7800 GTX on board. Who in the hell knows when that will be. Look how long it took for this. I had time to wait for my ALX. I don't plan on doing the same waitig game for my next lappy.

I just wanna buy a discounted 7700. The 6800 ultra's fine with me. So, I say bring on those new models so I can get a sweet deal on last years model, AW! My 766 with a 9600 ain't cutting it on the Quake4'age' front!

Well I have a 6800, but can I upgrade it to at least an ultra?

It seems to depend on your mobo version. Nvidia kept upping the power requirements for the mobile cards so new mobos were needed to supply the power. You can probably upgrade, but only with a new mobo.

Nice. A very large selection.

The time appears to have changed. It was counting down to midnight on the 31st, but now it is counting down to 1am on the 31st. Either way we should be seeing new laptops late Sunday night.

thats the trick... they will just keep moving back the counter by an hour at a time, hoping you wont notice.

Anyone ever think of Daylight Savings, cuz we get 1 less hour of waiting so maybe they had to change it. I don't no, I'm trying to think of any reason there possibly is without thinking that there gunna delay it for a day. Or maybe one of the designers were sucked into the computer when they were setting it up, so they had to find another guy.

While we wait, someone should start a scary story thread... I guess I'll start one..
