I don't think this "launch" is complete yet. I think in a week you all are gonna be like "Damn, I should have waited instead of buying this P.O.S. <insert your choice of manufacturer other than Alienware here>"

Hopefully...

I have some dissagreements with AW policies, but I want them to do better than this.
They've been saying for a while that the new models will be introduced in two stages. This is apparently the first.

The big guns are still on the bench.

I hope so.....I also hope that they add colors to the lineup.

Won't happen. If you see some of my previous posts, I have been begging for 17" + Centrino + 6800. I almost bought a 9300, but the white plastic around the keyboard is very fugly.

So you want a thin portable heater?

What makes you think the 7800 runs cool enough for the thin form factor?
Compared to what? The new 5500 has almost the same footprint as the old 5500 and the 5700 is thinner than the 7700.

I've heard they'll be offering something different than the grey, but I'm not sure how many choices there will be.

I intend to order an AMD/7800 version of the 7700. I'm painting my 5500 black, so if it looks good, I'll probably do the same with the 7700.

It would be nice if they'd offer the color choices they used to. I liked the yellow, and the cyborg green, but I've always bought black as it goes with everything.

I think a black 7700 with blue chrome eye pieces would look slick...

aren't you a little late? I think everyone one of us probably checked the alienware sites 10+ time already.

But I guess you all ready knew that.. my bad
post #296 of 449
damn, you'd figure they would offer a better video card with their new models... Not staying the 6800 is bad, but they could have thrown the 6800 ultra in.
What I want to know about is this "$500 deposit and then the balance will be charged BEFORE the computer is built." That means they could charge $500 today, and then the balance tomorrow, and still not have to deliver for 1-2 months. For the 5700 AW has that all of the different resolution choices "may delay delivery" So they have given themselves a "out" on delivery dates. I am waiting to see about the new sentia but I don't think I am willing to wait until mid-december to get a current tech laptop.

Have you compared the old 5500 to the new 5500?

Old: 13.8x11.4x1.6

New: 14.25x10.75x1.36

The new one is thinner...
