Possible ferrari 4000 high noise FIX!

Thread Starter
somebody with a ferrari try this:

1. install EVERST Home Edition (latest version)

2. run everest

3. go to: computer -> sensor

4. install and run latest SpeedFan

5. SpeedFan should now detect all temperature sensors, and fan controlers.

6. Play with fan speed at will

-I had a ferrari couple of weeks ago, but exchanged it for ASUS M6Va. This mod works on asus, and its dead silent now (before it was louder then a ferrari)

What "high noise" are U refering to?

I'm refering to the constant high rpm idle speed.
Aldough I can set ferrari to run below 40 degres, the fan deos never shut of or go below certain treshold

I tryed this mod on my acer ferrari 4005, but it doesn't work!!!
Did you try personally also on a f-4005, or only on your asus ???

Unfortunately SpeedFan doesn't recognise the Ferrari 4000 chipset. I'm been trying to make it work in Samurize for some time.

Nither Everest nor SpeedFan can detect other sensors than the Harddrive temperature sensor of my F4005. Combining the two does not lead to better sensor detection. Funny that MobileMeter is able to record the CPU temperature when SpeedFan cannot.

I got fan speed to see both CPU and HDD temp but no Fan. And boo to acer for making the fan always on WTF is up with that. Poor design if you ask me. I wish they would fix it the noise drives me nuts. That is the only thing I found wrong with this notebook except the refective LCD. God my POS HP ZE1000 fan only ran when it needed to and is quiter than the Ferrari's

I thought there was some way to turn down the graphics card settings, to allow it to run cooler? Shouldn't that keep the fan off part of the time?

As I wrote to you earlier, Ransomed1 (http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=107569) .... The fan of the F4005 is on even if the CPU temperature is 30C... It's always on at a low level... It's different from the TM8100-series in this respect..

The isssue is not with hardware design but in ACPI implementation (ASL programming of ACPI features). There are serious errors in Acer ACPI coding. People who setup Linux on Acer laptops typically decompile ACPI information, make fixes, recompile, and it starts working better. ACPI support in Windows is very forgiving to errors and just ignores eroneous parts or assumes default behaviour. Most likely FAN control is not programmed properly in ACPI. All it should take for Acer is program ACPI properly and issue BIOS update.

Ha, I must have forgotten about that. Didn't know it was seriously permanently on all the friggin time. Well, hopefully Acer will release a better bios update that allows the fan to actually turn off. That's one major difference between the Ferrari and the 8104. Not that the 8104 is completely silent, but it's pretty darn close.

I think the best solution is to send e-mails to Acer from all owners of Ferrari 4000 series, asking them a new bios that recognize RAM pc3200 400MHz and turn off the fan when the temperature is low.

I'm in
I too want DDR 400 (3200) RAM support. Please, please, please...

But, I would like the choice when it comes to the fan speed control.

The fan staying on is not an issue for me.
I'm of the opinion that the cooler the system is, the better it will run and the longer it will last.
At the same time, I don't want my laptop to sound like a jet engine either.
That's one reason why I am done with desktops, I don't know the tricks to make them run cool and silent.

I will do it too don' care about the PC3200 as for my system came with PC2700 so do not see the point. BUt i do want this fan off I run my cpu at 800mhz @ .900 volts most the time. And it still fast enough to run GTA-SA with powerplay all the way down too.

If this is possable let me know I tired ATITOOL and it does not even detect the Core and Memory setting just says 0

Oh, to turn down the graphics card settings? Does anybody know how to do this? I read somewhere that you could do it by turning down the ATI Powerplay settings.

you can do a little in powerplay but it is limited

go to atitool-settings- and select "PCI-E device"
Now you can change the frequency of your x700
