For Christmas - the dell 8600

Considering this machine for a Christmas present..Would like valuable input from you Dell owners...
Specifications:
1.6ghz Pentium M (Centrino)
15.4" WUXGA
512MB 333mhz
128mb Radeon 9600
24x CDRW/DVD Combo
60GB Hard drive (7,200 RPM)
Intel PRO 2100 WLAN (802.11b)

I'm almost all for this laptop except a few concerns: The build quality of Dell and its screen quality (Although I've read that the UXGA Versions are *very* impressive)
Help!

Was also considering the 4780 Sager, cause that 17' widescreen is lovely.. but am turning away as of the heat issues, weight, battery life..

Thanks Jeremy

Ive had 2 dells, they are good. BUT they bolth had a couple of bad pixels, and dell wouldnt replace the screen or laptop. Ive heard this from many other people too.. which is strange, i thought they used the same lcds as sager, but i guess not.

As of Dell's site on 12/7 it is marked: $2,083.00
A pretty penny, but it seems like a remarkable machine

I purchased the same thing except I got the A/B/G wireless, and upgraded to complete care warranty (purchased this on a couple other laptops that we use here at the shop and it was well worth it). I got ours through Dell Small Business for $2300 ($200 off and $169 mail in rebate for the upgrade to complete care). I've had several Dell laptops for both business and personal use and I've always been satisfied with the build and have yet to get one with any dead pixels.

I checked out MANY laptops from Acer to HP to apple to everything else
and i didnt spot one damn thing that the dell had done wrong

which is why i order a 8600.. the price is right .. the screen is great

the best build was the apple g4 notebook , but its too$$$ and not as powerful spec as the dell , but then its apples and oranges..

only thing wrong with the dell is possibly the depth of it .. and maybe the lack of card reader but big deal

the build is fine..
