Well, this is my very first mp3 player. I had considered getting an iPod awhile back, before the mini was around and such, but I could never justify it to myself. $300-400 is a lot for something I knew I would only use sporadically, maybe 5 minutes while walking to class or an hour while riding my bike 8-10 miles. If I'm working on anything, I can simply plug in my headphones and listen to my music via the computer. The only time-consuming activity I could see where an iPod would fit me would be while driving. A quick purchase of a cassette tape adapter and I'd be set.
So, my needs were minimal, which meant I held off on the big ones. Then the Shuffle was released and I knew it fit my needs and budget perfectly. I just toss it in my pocket and go about my business. It takes up little space in my pocket and I frequently pull it out when I'm going for my cigarette lighter. That's a good idea of the size of it. When I'm riding, I just put it on shuffle and start my journey. I have yet to notice the lack of a screen as a drawback. The only time I would refer to a screen would be while driving, and I'd rather not do something like that while going 70 mph with 18-wheelers all around. I find a nice, efficient way to navigate is keep the songs organized by artist when I import. Then, when needing to find a song, just shuffle a few times until I hit a close letter and skip forward or back to find the song. Takes 10 seconds or so.
Also, I've been in dire need of a jump-drive. This comes in handy so much, almost to the point that I have a drive that also happens to play music.
I had my website address engraved on it, as a security measure in case it was ever lost. If there are still good samaritans out there, a simple visit to the site would find my contact info on how to reach me to return it.
There's not a lot of shuffle photos online that I could find, with it being in a real world setting and being put up to scale. So maybe the photos in here will help some.
My final verdict is I love it. This is THE iPod for me and my needs. Might not be enough for some, but luckily there are still other products out there.
