Nvidia ForceWare Release 80 Version: 81.85

post #1 of 16

Nvidia has just released version 81.85 (whql) for mobile gpu's a few days ago:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_mobile_81.85.html

It says "GeForce Go 7800 GTX Only" but does anyone know if any of the Release 80 Forceware Drivers will work on Geforce Go 6800's (non ultra)??
I'm currently using version 7.7.7.0 which I downloaded from Sager's site, but it's been a while since the last update... is this the latest driver for the for the GeForce Go non-ultra 6800?

I'm running 81.85 on my 9880 with zero problems.

All desktop drivers can work in a mobile card as long as you have a properly modded inf file.

Works great!

Anyone who plays Guild Wars, watch out. I saw posts from people reporting issue with this driver , i.e. floor texture looks like square patches.

Don't know if it relates to the new 7800GT(X) or not, but on my desktop with the 6600GT I am getting the texture error in GW. You can also read more about it here: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=71511
I uninstalled and went back to the 71.89's on the desktop for GW.

I just installed 81.87 and don't have any of the issues I was having with any driver after 77.77. I'll run it a while and see how this one works!

Where did you download the inf file to use w/ 81.87?

Thanks

0x004080d6

After using the 81.87 driver from laptopvideo2go and their modified inf, everytime I power off, I get a memory error addressed to 0x004080d6

Any ideas?

I downloaded and played with driver yesterday. Didn't get the memory error but my 3dmark pro 05 score dropped 1000 points yes 1000 points. I haven't found one single driver besides the 77.77 @ sager that will boost performance on my system. Not one. There's always a glitching here for this game, a stuttering there for that game, yada yada. Any ideas anyone?
Also, is it possible to enable coolbits with the 77.77 driver from Sager? I looked in registry and there's no entry for it. It sure would be nice if nVidia would uh actually release drivers for their own products. They don't even have a contact listed on their web site for any inquiries. Just more of the same customer no service from the corporate sector.

That's interesting on the drop in performance. I didn't do any testing beyond what is generaly availabe on pcpitstop.com and there my performance over the 77.70 was improved from 163whateverunits to 213whateverunits.

Also interesting that you didn't get the memory error ... hmmm. Although I'm seeing you have a 9880 (mine is a 9860) and you have the 6800 ultra (mine is the 6800 go)

I have the hypersonic-pc ex7 (see sig). I never experience error described above. 80.85 was way slower than 77.77, but 81.87 is performing better on my laptop. I would say it equalled or slightly better than 77.77. On CS stress test, I got 63 fps and with 77.77, it's around 60. So Not really that much of a performance hike, but a little better.

Also, I noticed something odd: if you set the powermizer to "balanced" instead of "performance" games actually run smoother. Very strange.

Halflife 2 / Cs Source & Nvidia 777 Driver Issues

I thought I might just bring this up for those who are still running the Nvidia 777 driver and plan to play Half Life 2 / CS Source stuff... Let me start by saying that I've never had this problem w/ the 777 driver in the past... perhaps it is due to HL2 having been updated since then (havent really played / updated HL2 in a while...) but now it is requiring an additional Nvidia driver update to run the patched HL2.... not sure?

After doing a fresh install of HL2 / update... and upon firing up HL2, I got this pop-up message via Steam:

=========================================================

Video Driver Outdated

Your video drivers appear to be out of date and could cause problems if you choose to continue and run the game. We stongly recommend that you follow the link below and update your video drivers to the latest version available from your driver vendor.

Your Driver details

Windows Version: Windows XP
Description: Nvidia GeForce Go 6800
Version 6.14.10.7770

Goto Drivers update page....

=========================================================

Obviously, the logical solution is to upgrade the damn driver -- that's of course if there were actually an official driver update available!! After following the link given in the Steam warning message (thinking that perhaps it might lead me to the proper driver page for my gfx card....), I realized that it was the same damn default Nvidia driver selection page as usual... Needless to say -- there is no such driver for the GeForce Go 6800 card anywhere on the damn site!

So as of now, it is either depend on Sager to come out with an updated driver... (who know's when that will ever be)... and stick with the 777 driver... OR, do the trial and error thing via peer to peer / hacked driver dealio. You would think that after dropping a grip of dough an such a hardcore notebook, that they would at least keep up on the driver updates and not leave us to depend on hacked versions! And if it were really all that simple and the issue in the driver is truly just a matter of a simple "inf" fix then why havent they already done so?!

But I guess all in all, whether the driver is official or not, either way -- it is a trial and error thing... and ultimately the same damn sh!t anyways... hehe. Anyhow... Thanks for the heads up on the 81.87 driver! I'll definitely give it a shot... and report anything that hasn't already been reported. Good luck to all and have fun.
