Halflife 2 / Cs Source & Nvidia 777 Driver Issues
I thought I might just bring this up for those who are still running the Nvidia 777 driver and plan to play Half Life 2 / CS Source stuff... Let me start by saying that I've never had this problem w/ the 777 driver in the past... perhaps it is due to HL2 having been updated since then (havent really played / updated HL2 in a while...) but now it is requiring an additional Nvidia driver update to run the patched HL2.... not sure?
After doing a fresh install of HL2 / update... and upon firing up HL2, I got this pop-up message via Steam:
=========================================================
Video Driver OutdatedYour video drivers appear to be out of date and could cause problems if you choose to continue and run the game. We stongly recommend that you follow the link below and update your video drivers to the latest version available from your driver vendor.
Your Driver details
Windows Version: Windows XP
Description: Nvidia GeForce Go 6800
Version 6.14.10.7770
Goto Drivers update page....

Obviously, the logical solution is to upgrade the damn driver -- that's of course if there were actually an official driver update available!! After following the link given in the Steam warning message (thinking that perhaps it might lead me to the proper driver page for my gfx card....), I realized that it was the same damn default Nvidia driver selection page as usual... Needless to say -- there is no such driver for the GeForce Go 6800 card anywhere on the damn site!
So as of now, it is either depend on Sager to come out with an updated driver... (who know's when that will ever be)... and stick with the 777 driver... OR, do the trial and error thing via peer to peer / hacked driver dealio. You would think that after dropping a grip of dough an such a hardcore notebook, that they would at least keep up on the driver updates and not leave us to depend on hacked versions! And if it were really all that simple and the issue in the driver is truly just a matter of a simple "inf" fix then why havent they already done so?!
But I guess all in all, whether the driver is official or not, either way -- it is a trial and error thing... and ultimately the same damn sh!t anyways... hehe.

Anyhow... Thanks for the heads up on the 81.87 driver! I'll definitely give it a shot... and report anything that hasn't already been reported. Good luck to all and have fun.
