Upgrade the 3.2ghz to the new 64bit?!?

Thread Starter
I just put in an order today for the extream, of course I goto the fourms and see new talk about the 64 bit coming out....I am going to stick with my order because the 64 will take a while to get going and the 3.2 will suite my needs as of now. Later on tho what will it take to upgrade my current processor to the 64 bit chip...also what will i have to do to get the 256 card to replace the 128 and is that worth the extra money to do??? thanx for any info

You can't just drop an AMD chip onto the current mobo. You would need a new mobo with a chipset that supported the AMD 64 bit proc.

contact that company from lithuania. they might be able to put in an amd64 chip for ya. there might be a small service fee. but it might be worth a try.

Maybe they'll throw in a free "I LOVE LITHUANIA" t-shirt as well.

Hahahahahah maybe they would....i cant think of anything

A P4 has a socket 478. The new AMD64 has a socket 740 or 749 somewhere in the 700's.

I believe sometime January 2004 with 256mb for new GPUs from ATI and Nvidia

How much you think the new systems are going to cost?
a lot of money
I'm betting that it will be around the same price if not just a tad bit more. AMD will need to somehow get people on the bandwagon, and the only way to do that to help developers get 64bit apps out, and lower pricing of the CPUs vs Intel's

I know personally as a developer I have absolutely no incentive currently to code against the AMD line. Intel goes out of their way to make sure I have test hardware at my site to work with. AMD seems to be really cheap about this, in fact they never want to work with us.
