HOW-TO: Upgrade your 9300 with the Ultra or 7800 "Photo Guide" - Page 51

I have done 7800GTX in 9300 long time ago. CPU at 2.26Ghz highest possible. It is now a regular laptop for my wife, really can't play many games today. The default Go 6800 card is kept in the drawer for 3 years i guess...

I hate to jump into a really old thread that hasn't had any activity for over 2 years, but:

I just did the 7800GTX Go upgrade on my son's Inspiron 9300 that this guide was for.  It was successful, & I learned alot about how to do it from this thread so I appreciate all the work that was done into making this a very easy upgrade.

Specs:

Pentium M 1.6/400 overclocked to 2.13/533

1GB DDR2(512 x 2)

1920x1200 Display

160GB IDE drive

150 Watt Power Supply

9 Cell Battery

Windows XP

The upgrade works great but I've noticed an issue:

Youtube sucks(& I KNOW Flashplayer sucks).  Videos lag.  I don't have the same issues with my Thinkpad T60p(Core Duo 2.13Ghz/FireGL 5200).  I know the Core Duo is somewhat faster, but they should be within 10%.  I can play a 720p HD video without hitting 100% CPU but flash pegs it.  Fullscreen is basically unwatchable.

From what I have read, the nVidia driver from Dell is too old for Flash to use hardware accell.  I tried the omega drivers, which workd fine on the 6800 go, but couldn't get them to work on the 7800, so I had to use Dell's drivers for the XPS Gen2.  Does anyone know of a place I can get a newer driver that might help?

Has anyone who still has this setup managed to use HTML5 instead of Flash?

Any other suggestions?

This thing may be old, but it plays Call of Duty 2 great at 1920x1200!

Thanx

Try turning off Flash plugins in your browsers, or remove Adobe altogether and see how it reacts. It's a pain that Adobe really needs to address and has yet to be able to overcome it.

cheers ...
