HOW-TO: Upgrade your 9300 with the Ultra or 7800 "Photo Guide" - Page 7

Ok, I'm a little confused. I have the 9 cell battery and a bunch of 90W AC adapters. I understand I need the 130W to get full use of the 7800 video card. Can I boot at all with the 90W's if I'm not gaming, and at least charge the batteries, or can I use the 90W adapters for anything?

Thanks,
John

I wasn't even able to flash to the XPS2 bios without the 130w adapter. Said something about invalid config.

You should be able to use the card with 90W adapter (I did, I9300), but your battery won't charge when the laptop is turned on. Card performance will drop by 50% without the power adapter, though.

i've received my new 130w adapter, but waiting for my video card.
i make a test, and now, only with changing the adapter, i can o/c more my 6800go.... strange isn't it?
i've got another question, can i flash my bios now with the cracked released bios, reboot system, install latest xps2 A05 bios update, and then wait for my video card who should arrive next week?
can i continue to work after this modification, the time my new gpu arrive?
thanks

i've found my response. i've install all off this and it's work!!!, but wait now the video card.

Yah, this thread has been stickied. I have a question. I got an old i5150 and while looking at its configuration, I noticed it uses:
1045DCORD, POWER, 110V, 6F, ALTERNATING CURRENT, 3W\3P, UNITED STATES
9Y819ADAPTER, ALTERNATING CURRENT, 130W, 19.5V, LITEON, WORLD WIDE
A 130W adapater, how interesting...
You think it can be used to power a 7800 GTX mod should the need come up? Thanks.
Doesn't the 5150 used a different connector into the laptop than the 9300/XPS2???

Guess I'll find out when my i9300 arrives tomorrow (hopefully)!

You won't be able to boot up on the 90 watt adapater. You can boot up with the 9 cell battery or the 130 watt adapter. You can plug the machine into the 90 watt adapter after it is up and running.

I don't know if I told here...but I have ANOTHER SUCCESFULL STORY of a 6800 ultra in a 9300

I installed the card BEFORE upgrading the bios or anything...and I was running AO3. It detected and recognized no problem...just doesn't give it juice for the 3dmarks.

My machine is scoring around 5000 with a 1.6 pentium M, 6800 Ultra, and 2 gigs of ram.

has anyone tried this with the 130 watt adaptor and the 6 cell battery. I see nothing in the bios that identifies the battery only the ac adaptor. if someone has the 6 cell still maybe they could pop it in and check this to see if they still get full speed.
Hrmm interesting. I always wondered if I had the 9cell and 130w power supply about how much more juice i could get from the 6800. Can get ti to 380/770 atm on a 6cell 90w. Doesn't matter though cause my 7800 is on it's way wuuu

Yea I was able to use my 6 cell. In fact, I pop it out to boot, otherwis ethe bios bitxhes and says the battery isnt enough yadda yadda yadda. But I would rather screw my 6 cell up before my 9 cell, since my 6 cell will give me an hour and a half if I am lucky, but my 9 cell with give me almost 3 hours lol.

I actually flashed my BIOS and isntalled my card with the 90 watt power brick,. Damn this thing was STARVING for juice!! The cpu would only operate at 6oo Mhz, even lower then its supposed to, and when I ran 3dmark 03, i only got like 12,000 marks, that was stock to, but hell I at least got something outta it. Once I got my 130 watt, everything was Kosher again lol

with just running off the 130w power supply will the 7800 run at full speed?
Yes Vilk, but it's still recommended that you get the 9cell battery off of eBay to fill that hole and just in case the power goes out. Kinda takes away the point of being a laptop if you can't put a battery in it! =)~

Darkloki... do NOT order that 12cell battery. It is from the original XPS and 9100 series laptops. they have a different size/shape battery than the 9300/XPS2/m170 family. You'd be wasting your money.

Just get the 9cell, it's the best they offer for our machines right now. And as narrow as this battery is compared to the almosts-square 9100/XPS1 batteries, there isn't much room to properly cram 12cells into that casing.

So true, but damn Dell Aus take fkn forever to ship anything, i'll get the card from os and the 130w power supply before the battery even hits our shores.

Both files are in 3RDPARTY DIR. You can revert to the

9300 bios any time as well.

---i got the bootcd from clown (thanks again!!)..

How do you change the directory to X:\freedos\3rdparty ????
1. key in X: hit enter
2. key in cd\freedos\3rdparty and press enter
