What drivers are you using?

Okay I am sorry for stupid and this has been kinda discussed but I am dumb.
Okay I am gonna make a boot cd and follow the instructions and flash with the xps bios.
However then it says to start computer in windows and flash again?? do I download A05 from the dell site?? I bought the laptop a week ago.
I am not sure what the process is for the AO5.

Just a question, did anyone ever figure out how to get a CD to flash the BIOS?
EDIT: Second question, has anyone noticed any drops in GPU temps when applying AS5? Reason I ask is my friend and I both have 6800Gos. Mine has AS5, his doesnt (I know how to put on AS5, thats not the problem). His GPU is about 1C lower than mine at idle and 2C lower at load (both using same clocks and RTHDRIBL). I think the problem here is that Dell uses that thin piece of aluminum with TIM on it, which fills in the gap between the core and the heatsink. You have to apply alot of AS5 to still make good contact, and I think this hurts the CPU. Therefore, it might be better just to leave the core with the stock cooling, or get a thin piece of copper sheeting and slip it in there and AS5 both sides of that to maintain the pressure on the core.

Did all the stuff in this post and got my computer up and running. When I install the drivers and want to chance some settings or do anything it says that the drivers I have are for a previous version of windows and not compatible with my hardware. I am using the newest drivers from XtremeG.. what did I do wrong?

Also when I try to install the original NVidia drivers it says that they cant be installed because I dont have any compatible hardware.

I used the CD on page 4 to flash. Works fine. I believe due to the 7800 being hotter AS5 is recommended. I didn't put AS5 on (still waiting to get some) and after running BF2 at 450/1200 for a couple hours the GPU clocks out at about 80C.. idle of around 45ish

Lol, just read through the thread a third time and finally found the .iso, thanks! Hmmm... 80C is definitely toasty. I guess when I take my 6800Go out I'll take the heatink off and look at the coverage of the chip there.

Fantastic guide!
I have a 9-cell battery, and already received my 7800 from spare parts... now I just need to wait for the AC power supply from ebay that is on schedule for delivery on Friday....... I find myself checking the tracking status every so often to see if it has been updated... I guess I shouldn't have ordered from somebody on the other side of the country.

May I ask those who bought the 130W power adapter from e-bay:
- What seller did you buy from?
- Did they ship fast?
- Would you recommend them?

Awww drizek, you did use the same guy as me... and yes I'd recommend that guy also. Genuine New Dell 130watt power brick delivered within 4 days of purchase, satisfied with his service.

Thanks, trigger #4 has been pulled (w/ coupon!)

Anyone seen this problem before? The ebay guy claimed the power supply was new...? I flashed to the A05 bios for XPS2 also, and I'm still getting the same error. The power supply would be bad... right?

I cant tell whether its the 90 watt or the 130 watt but that error is different that what I got with my 90 watt Power supply plugged in. Not 100% possible I might get some time to check tommorow.

My error is off of a 130w PSU. When I use the 90w PSU it basically gives the same error but says "90w" in there.

You got a multimeter handy DriveEuro? Best way to see what's coming out of your power supply would be to measure it.
right... i'll get on it.

19.7v output. seems fine. my mutlimeter doesn't do current though.

bump...

Anyone can help? I think the power supply may just be defective. I ordered two more from other ebay sellers.
