Nice updates, it looks really good now. Thanks IRobertus!

Power supply-wise I ordered the 130 one with the part # of 310-6580. The ones on ebay have a different part #... might be the issue there... i mean 130 watts is 130 watts but who knows?!?! The guide also point to the 310-6580 one.

edit

... mine just showed up... looks similar to the pic except for these differences

* where in the pic it says AC adapter mine says 130W-AC Adapter
* the pic has rev A01 Mine has Rev A04

Other than that they look identical...

Cool, let us know if it actually works though.

It's apparently a bad power supply, you should let the guy know it doesnt work and ask for an exchange. Tell him how the XPS2 will not boot without a 130watt and this one does not register properly.

Im not sure if this has been covered, so sorry if it has, but I've got an XPS Gen2. If I get the 7800, will I still need to reflash the BIOS to accept it? Or are the drivers the only thing that will need to be changed as far as software?

You might need to upgrade to the M170 bios 5.0 possibly to have the bios support the card. You dont need to do anything special just download the update from Dell.

Who did you order yours from, and how much did you pay?
I ordered it through Dell so I knew I was getting exactly what I was getting... plus if there were any problems i could send it back and deal with their support (If thats a plus or not is yet to be seen )

I Payed like 55 through EPP... you might be able to get it lower with coupons and with the battery added.

$55 just for the adapter?
yip... I know you can get them on ebay for $24 but I wanted to be assured that I didnt have any issues... plus i dont always trust ebay 100% of the time..

I have a 9300 and was wondering if there is any advantage in upgrading all the way to the m170 bios or will the xps2 bios be just as good?

The M170 or XPS2 A05 bios's will probably be the only one that supports the 7800 GTX so if you are not upgrading to the 7800 you don't need to update your bios to M170. I just updated my bios to the M170 bios and havent had any problems, plus on boot up the system no longer states a model.

An update:
My ebay power supply arrived on Saturday.
I successfuly upgraded from 6800 to 7800 with only one snag:
Following the instructions on the first post, I uninstalled and cleaned my old drivers before swapping cards... however, when I booted into windows using the 7800, the screen was garbled (it worked fine as it was booting up, and in the bios menu, so I knew it was a windows driver issue). I solved the problem by booting into windows using VGA mode (a safe mode option), which worked!! (safe mode did not work, so I tried the vga mode).

In VGA mode I was able to re-install the drivers and got the card working normally.

I then proceeded to OC using the other boot disk posted in the forums. I just chose what seems to be a stable OC for most people (440/1200) and left it alone after a bit of testing, since it seems to work fine.

stats in sig!

I just recently ordered the Dell 9300. I had to order the laptop and get the price under the 1500 dollar limit, which I was able to successfully do. However, I had to sacrafice the video card, with the 64 MB one they offer. My question is, this upgrade will still be possible, even with the 64 MB video card version of the laptop, right?

Also, other than Dell; Where can you order/purchase video cards for laptops?

ebay

Do'h, should have put that in there too. I take it no companies sell video cards for laptops? You either have to find someone selling there old one, or trick Dell into sending you a replacement part.

exactly

So I finally got a working power supply from ebay today. The first one I had was DOA.

Mod worked fine for me intially, just the laptop didn't like my PSU, said it couldn't determine its wattage.

Slapped the 7800 back in today with a new PSU and all is well.
