Bah, here in germany there is only one guy on ebay selling the 7800 GTX. Costs €599 (around $650)

Looks like no 7800 GTX for me...

Hallo Preech,

Finally got home today and installed mine. AS5 on the core and made sure everything was seated properly and it looks gold. Idling at 46C right now in a 26C room, scored 6770 in 3DMark05 at stock speeds. Man this is the fastest card I have ever owned, gonna start overclocking right now .

help guys, i just modded my laptop with AS5 and installed the new 7800 gtx

when i boot up to desktop, my screen is a huge blur..i can't make anything out

Try loading Windows in Safe Mode.

There you can set your VGA Driver to STandard. THat should boot up normally. After that you can install the new, fresh driver.

i ve recently upgrade the card i couldn´t wait to the battery and the power adapter, so plugged it in, the system recognizes the card, this night i will execute 3dmark05 to view results
I will flash the xps bios when it comes the battery or the ac to unlesh the power of the card.

Does it void the warranty on the 7800 GTX to remove the thermal pad and apply AS5?

I wouldn't think so. I have the onsite, so anytime a tech comes, he's pretty cool. They just get paid to replace whatever part is broken. They don't ask questions, I suspect.

Depends on who you deal with I would imagine.

it might, if you screw it up. otherwise, how would they know? they will never open it up to check cause that would ruin the thermal pad.

Newb question

Just did succesful (I hope) 7800 upgrade (on a 9300).
I have a stupid question. After you flash the bios to A05, the bios startup no longer says XPS gen 2, is that correct?
Other than that everything seems great!

That's how it is on mine, doesn't say XPS gen 2 since the update to A05 but still works great, did a 2 hour gaming session with no problems at all.

Doh, posted this question previously in the wrong thread:

Can anyone recommend a good Ebay seller to buy the 9 cell battery from? So many choices, not sure who is trustworthy. Thanks!

Mid-way down on page 12 of this thread has some recommendations for the adapter. I believe that seller also sells the batteries...
