Installed and applied AS5 to both CPU and GPU and everything is up and running smoothly.
A question though, I would like to check my CPU and GPU temps to make sure I didn't goof up when I applied the AS5 but can't find temps. I tried using both Motherboard monitor and Aida32 but none of them will give me what I need. What are you guys using?
Thanks in advance and I have to agree with 99% of the users; this site rocks! =)

get centrino harware control (NHC) and nvtemplogger for the gpu..... get it at guru3d.com ciao dude!!! congrats

go7800 GTX in I9300 (Germany)

Today i´ve got my PA-13 (130W) power brick and i have just finished the bios update 9300A05 -> XPS2A01 -> XPS2A05. Everything works fine until now.

Now i am waiting for my Go7800 GTX bought in the US. Will be delivered next week.

I hope this will be another success story.

Thanks for all this information in this forum.

One question:
And there is absolutely not hardware difference between 9300 and XPS2 ?
I mean concerning cooling fans, fan control, and so on..
Just a few missing connectors on the mobo for the led fans and speakers that the xps2 has for lights. That an the fans, speakers and backlid that have the leds in them. The mobo is exactly the same minus the led connectors not soldered to it.
Virtually no difference between the XPS2 and the 9300. The lights are really the only noticeable difference. Oh, and the Gigabit ethernet on the XPS2.
For those that did the BIOS hack to XPS2 on your 9300... Are there any extra "features" in the XPS 2 BIOS over the 9300's BIOS? Like memory timmings? Overclocking the CPU? thanks.
Nope, just some stuff us 9300 owners can't use, like the LED controls.

Thanks to all the contributions that made this possible. It was very easy to make this upgrade successful. I chose the 6800 Ultra card after buying one on eBay for $160.00. It'd be nice to get a 7800 card later on. The battery was $57 and another $28.00 for the power brick.

Now I have a 6800 Go card to sell!
Where did you get the battery for $57? Ebay?

Shoot, they came down in price. When I bought my 9 cell for $90 back in June that was a deal.

Dell I9300 1400.00 @ Outlet

New Dell 9 cell battery.... $57.55
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWN%3AIT&rd=1

New Dell PA-13 AC Adapter.... $25.95
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWN%3AIT&rd=1

Dell 6800 Ultra Video Card... $160.00

Pentium M 1.6 GHz 400FSB 2MB CPU... $93.56

Total Package.... XPS Conversion!

I wish that I had stumbled upon this forum before getting my 9300. I would have opted for a smaller CPU and a Radeon video card. That would have saved me more money.

The places I ordered from on eBay were great. I had no problems at all so far.

http://stores.ebay.com/COMPUTER-SOLUTION-TECH

I found other parts for Dell laptops at reasonble prices at these two stores.

Yeah, add $15 for shipping on the battery(which is a ripoff considering its only costing that person $8 max). So $72. I knew $57 was too good to be true.

Hello,

Does anyone know if we could make this upgrad on a dell m70. Could we replace the fxgo1400 by the go7800 (or his openGL version in the future ). I believe for the material it not a real problem (the size of the fxgo1400 and go6800 is the same), but what happening for the bios update ?

Excuse my poor english, and thanks for your answers !

Can anyone confirm a successfull 9300 with 7800 and A revA00/01 130PSU? It seems like 00/01 PSU isn't recognised in a 9300 with xps bios.

Det er kun alderen som bestemmer hvilken A0X det er som selges, er de relativt nye er de A04 OSV

It is only the age of the adapter that decides wich A0X it is. Is the PSU relatively new, it will have a higher A0X

Don't kill me for asking (I'm sure it was covered somewhere in this long-assed thread):

Do you really need the NB Heatsink or not?

PS- My refurb 7800GTX Go shipped in 1 day! Go Dell!

Not working

Ok, I have the 9 cell batt. and 130w supply.

I have the bios file on a CD, pressed f12 at the beginning, chose CD drive to start up, and it went straight to windows screen and windows logged on.

IS there something I am missing?

The bios file provided on the first page, all I need to do is download it and put it on CD right?
i just did it again and its not working.

After i download the bios file - what do I do with it?

I have a possible work around to avoid needing the 130WATT power supply, but would need someone with an Inspiron 9300 + GeForce 7800 installed to verify this.

First, boot with your 9cell + 130 watt power supply and note your 3D Mark number.

Reboot on BATTERY ONLY and note your 3D Mark number.

Now, plug your 90 Watt power supply into the laptop when you are already booted up into Windows and run 3DMark again. I'm curious to know how it compares to the other 2.

Apparently the 130 Watt Power Supply Necessity check in BIOS is at boot up. I flashed my i9300 to XPS2A01 and got the infamous "130 WATT POWER SUPPLY REQUIRED" at boot time. However, I was able to boot on battery power alone and plug my 90 Watt power supply in once I was in Windows and the screen brightened and everything. I haven't done the 7800 GTX mod yet though since I just got my laptop yesterday and have not had time yet. But, if someone could do the above testing to see what numbers it posts on a 90watt power supply, I may cancel my 130 watt power supply order.

This happened to me initially and I think it was because it was a bad burn. I re-burned the ISO and it worked fine. You should see it say something about FreeDOS, then present a menu. Choose option 1, then choose option 1 again, then choose option 2. Some of the entries may require you to hit the ENTER key after typing the number. I forget which ones.

thanks, i will download it again and reburn it.
