I have searched all 24 threads and I still haven't quite found the answer to a problem I have with this mod.

I have all the components (130 watt adapt, 9 cell batt). I burned the bios onto a blanked cd and when I select the option to reboot the system from my disk drive, the next screen just says insert a bootable disk or press F1 to try again.

I tried it with a usb stick as well and the same message came up. I burned about 4 disk with the bios and no of them worked before i gave up and came here to asked what could I be doing wrong.

Does anyone have any suggestions or comments before I sale the card on ebay lol.
Did you donloaded the bootable cd image from first page on this thread?
Once downloaded the name of it is FDBOOTCDXPS and it is 11,099 KB. If so, have you tried different blank media.Another thing is try on booting to the cd's you made on another PC, a friend, relative etc and see if it boots. Also try any other bootable cd you got on your 9300 to try to isolate the problem. Also a very basic thing, but important, when burning the disk choose "burn image to cd, burn cd image to disk etc" dont just burn the data to the cd. Now, about the USB, I havent tried so i cant suggest anything but does sound definetively data related and not hardware, other than that difficult to comment without more info.
I downloaded the cd image mentioned above and burned it with nero by choosing "burn image to disk" and followed rest of directions for no problems at all, booted right up.... My problem is the bum piece of s&i# power brick I got from this guy on ebay and the guy wont answer emails to do an exchange, not worried, paypal refunding me, but thats another story and I got a brick coming from dell ...
Good luck with that!

Hey thanks, I had to download NERO becuase my cd buring program wanted me to pay extra to burn an iso.
After I did that an selected the option burn iso, everything went smoothly.

Another success story YEAAAHHHHH. Thanks alot for all you guys help.

Just a note, you don't have to update the BIOS before you put in the 7800GTX. I had my 7800GTX running on my 9cell and 90W AC Adapter, then plugged in the 130W adapter and did the hacked bios update and then the A05 update. Works like a charm!

Yup, you just need to flash to enable full functionality of the card
post #365 of 1001
Ya, I was hoping I wasn't going to have to stick my X300 back in :P
post #366 of 1001
Thanks guys for all the recomendations. 9 cell arrived yesterday and I completed the upgrade last night without any problems. Specs are in Sig!
You mean that just need the 130W and 9cells to flash the hacked bios and then de xps2 A05, and then use the 90W and 9 cells ? no need to buy a 130W, just borrow it from a xps2 friend ?
uh... technically thats right... but you wont be getting the full power the card needs unless you are plugged into the 130W adaptor. So, you will still need the 130W adaptor

Hi everyone. I just joined this forum after reading this thread from beginning to end, very impressed with everyone here. I was just about to buy a new laptop, possibly from Costco. Originally I was going for the XPS but after reading all this it looks like I'll be going for the 9300. One question though. One of the reasons I'm buying this is for the DVI out. I thought I read it in some of the reviews but was not able to verify that it is DVI-D anywhere else. Can someone please verify this? I want to use this as an HTPC to connect to Sharp Aquos 45 LC45GX6U. This model has an external AVC box and can connect directly to panel (bypassing the AVC box) to get an 1080P video and this is my goal. Has anyone tried it yet, I know my Sharp LCD is kind of picky when it comes to the video card. Any feed back is appreciated.

Does the TV turner and DVR option for the XPS also work for 9300? I'm actually more interested in a HDTV/ATSC turner DVR anyways. More on this later I got to go for now.

Thanks

Any reason why the XPS2 BIOS needs the 9 cell? Does the battery actually put out more amps or does it just last longer?

Just curious...

I'd have to believe it is, since Dell markets the I9300 as an "Entertainment Powerhouse" and it comes with XP MCE as an option (with or w/o TV Tuner). But I guess I can't say for sure. How would you tell?

I did it..

Hello All,
This is my first post. After weeks of reading all the posts about this upgrade I finaly went and orderd my GPU. I just got it today and install was a snap. I had already had the 9 cell battery and the 130W powersupply so that part was easy. Being an IT professional and building many desktops the install of the card was pretty easy. I got the card next day for a total of about $248 right from dell like everyone said using the number listed on another thread.

So I am quite happy . I have my 3DMark 03 score in my signature and will be downloading 3DMark 05 soon. World of Warcraft is much smoother and better looking from the original ATI card that the laptop came with. Now all I need is to upgrade the processor. I have thought about buying the 1.6 with the 400Mhz FSB and doing the jumper trick, but common sence tells me I shouldn't be putting wires in the little holes where the CPU goes. So I will spend the money and do it the right way.

So, thats it.. I hope to be posting more here on the forums. I am happy that I stumbled acrost this site.

Thanks,
Brian.

Question... Where do you get the 81.98 driver. I tried the one from nVidia and it said it can't find the hardware in my machine. The one from dell is the only one that works.

You were probably looking at the drivers for the desk top version and not the Go. You'll have to look for the moble drivers. The one that I'm using was modded by G-Force Tony at TweaksRus, you'll find the correct mobile drivers here http://www.tweaksrus.com/index.php?o...163&Itemid=41/

Welcome to the forums guys. Can't help you on the DVI, HTPC's aren't my thing. As far as pin-modding goes, it's easy as can be, check the stickied thread at the top of this forum on how to do it; no reason to spend the extra money for a true 770 unless it's burning a hole in your pocket . Also, the problem with Dell's cards is they really mess with them. For instance, they BIOS lock the card so that you can't software overclock them and so that you can only use Dell drivers on the cards. It's a pain, but thankfully we have tony putting out new drivers

Also, check out www.laptopvideo2go.com. They post modded .inf files for EVERY driver release when they come out. Basically, the information in the .inf file tells the driver which cards it can be installed for. Most drivers are for desktop systems, so you need the modded .inf to install on laptops. Download the driver of your choice, unzip it to a folder (usually the driver exe does this for you), replace the nv4_disp.inf in the original driver with the modded one (each .inf is driver-specific, so make sure you get the RIGHT modded one), and run the driver setup. Laptopvideo2go also posts performance/quality .inf's, so you can play with those, too. Or use the tweaksrus drivers. Their modded .inf's are based off of the ones from Laptopvideo2go, with their own enhancements.

Hello

today I updated my inspiron 9300 with a 7800gtx. But there is s small problem.

the benches I made are so low.

i have the same hardware config like 911medic

AQ3: 69000
3D05 : 4950
3D03: 13500

i used the 81,98 driver.

what is wrong with my 9300?

bios is the A05
Did you switch to the 130W power adapter? And flash to the XPS/M170 BIOS? Just trying to eliminate the obvious. When you bench do you have the drivers set at "high performance"? AA/AF off?
jes i use the 130 w adapter and bevor i flashed the XPS gen2 A05 bios i flashed the A01

iEDIT

i reflashed the bios and now i have 7000!

Another success story...

I got my Go7800 GTX for the I9300 yesterday and the hardware installation was done in about 30 minutes without any probs. The only problem was the graphics driver. I had a strange looking desktop after booting up. So i needed to boot in VGA Mode and reinstall the Go7800 driver. Then everything was ok. ---> 6700 3D Marks 2005, not overclocked

Meanwhile my friend needed a new machine and he bought mine with the 7800GTX and i ordered a new XPS M170, Go7800GTX with the 2,26 GHz Centrino. (delivered 2 days ago)
The 3D Mark 2005 score is identically at 6700.

So folks. Be happy with your 9300. It is a very nice machine...

Anton
