Would the 6800 Ultra being pre-installed really make any difference?

Just trying to save myself putting everything back together and taking it apart again.
*Bump* Anyone know the answer to this?

Cheers

I need some help. I got my 78gtx ages ago but i have been waiting for one of the two 130watters i ordered to get here.

The AC from dell came today but its not a PA-13!!

It is a "Duracell 130-Watt AC/DC Power Adapter"... I was listed as an option when ordering my i9300 so I got it (back order)...

My PA-13 should be here in the next 5 days but can I go ahead and install my 7800 Go with this duracell thing or did I throw away $80?
130-Watt is 130-Watt... try it and see.
Sure enough... The duracell 130 works like a charm... It is much better than a PA-13 in fact... MUCH smaller and it includes are car plug! Its great! Oh yea, the 7800 is real chronic too....

Ok, I'm atm selling my 6800 ultra, the buyer would like to know how it looks like with warranty... my computer came with 1 year.

No. In fact I would advise against it. Some people have experienced some problems with the hacked XPS BIOS as far as Standby, Hibernation, and I think a couple other things. There's no advantage that I know of by upgrading to the XPS BIOS unless you're isntalling the 6800U or 7800GTX.

games on the 7800 Go (Inspiron 9400 Dual Core !)

1. Minimal weight is added, and the extra battery life is very nice. You'll need the 9-Cell for a 6800 Ultra anyway, so get it.

2. The stock X300s and 6800Go run at full power even on battery.

3. Probably horrible battery life. My 6800 Go NU went for about 3:30-4 with a nine cell and everything turned down or off. Gaming I could get up to 1:45. With my 7800Go I get about 2:30 of desktop life and ~1:10 gaming. The Ultra is evidently worse on power than the 7800Go, so probably a little less than that.

4. Games run alright on battery life on my 7800Go (7800Go on battery is still faster than the 6800Go I had). Again, cant help you here because I dont own a 6800Go Ultra.

5. Yup.

6. 9300 is great for me. Anything smaller would be a pain in the ass, I love the room and the size of the screen. The battery life is insane for such a big laptop. Also, the palm rests are big enough for me to even run my mouse on and do a little gaming (because thumbpadding it sucks ). I use my laptop to write labs and I get a good 3:30-4 hours in the library which is perfect.

I'm wondering why you went for the 6800Ultra instead of the 7800Go? The 7800 is much faster, especially in games, and it's pretty damn cheap atm at ~$250. Did you get a killer deal on the Ultra? Also, the laptop will only support 2GB of RAM, but I think that should be good for many engineering apps. Good luck
Hi,

well, this has interested me.

What games can you run on the 7800 Go - everyone seems to think it won't run most of the recent games without reducing the settings significantly

thanks

Wow. I don't know where you heard "everyone" saying that, but it's not true. Obviously, there are other factors involved (CPU speed/amount of memory/etc), but I can play Quake 4 and Call of Duty 2 at quite high settings (not maximum, with my CPU/memory) comfortably. A LARGE improvement over the 6800 Go I had previously.
He means 7800 go not the GTX, 911medic.

There are concerns that it will be a mild upgrade from the 6800go.
On paper it has more potential than a 6800ultra with the added benefit of 6-cell, 90watts only.
We have to wait until people start getting them in Feb, rather than go by just the online reviews.
Also, 911medic, with your CPU you should be able to max all settings at native (except soft shadows) resolution with the 7800GTX.
I do with a 1.6/7800GTX combo.
Whats holding you back big time is the 512mb ram.
You NEED 2GB!
Just wanted to add another very big thank you to the list, as I upgraded my new 9300 with the 7800GTX today (for the $252 price no less).

One thing I may have missed someone else mentioning, but when I went to put the 7800GTX in, the terminal end of the second copper pipe would not fit into its corner because of two foam "stops" in the way. I ended up pulling these out to allow it to fit, as they didn't seem to be doing anything other than occupying the space.

I've ordered AS5 but wanted to see what temp I would get with the stock thermal pad. According to the Nvidia tool it's idling at about 52C. That's with Geforce Tony's 81.85 XG drivers, fwiw.

I know, it'$ on my li$t of thing$ to buy.

As far as which card deadstone2706 was referring to, I guess since he was quoting Mr. K6, and Mr. K6 referred to his Go 7800GTX as a "7800Go", I assumed he was asking about the GTX. My bad.

Yes, early benchmarks of the 7800Go "vanilla" were rather unimpressive.

Yeah, the rubber pads have to be removed to get that heatsink to fit on the CPU side. I think they're to keep some of the heat from the CPU heatsink from recirculating back inside. That temp sounds about right. Mine is currently sitting at 53C with the stock thermal pad.

What is this plug on the top of the card?

<a href="http://img90.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img00101jq.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/7097/img00101jq.th.jpg" border="0" alt="Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us" /></a>

Also, what happens if you install the card without changing the BIOS and using the 130 watt PS?
No idea what that plug is for. If you install the card w/o the BIOS/PSU, it will run in "low power" mode (clocked at 250/658). I had mine installed for about a week this way, until my PA-13 arrived. Of course, I have the 9-cell battery, so I can't speak for those with the 6-cell. After the PSU arrived, I simply booted up with the PA-13 plugged in, flashed the hacked XPS2A01 BIOS, then upgraded to the M170 A05 BIOS. All is well.
