Follow the instructions in this thread here. http://www.notebookforums.com/showth...light=bootdisk

I used the ISO image provided here (beginning of this thread). Using Roxio, I selected File-->Record Disc from Image. Burned it to a CD, and followed the instructions there. Then, once you've updated to the hacked A01 BIOS, you can flash with newer BIOSes simply using the .exe BIOS updater you can download from Dell. The memory key instructions are a bit confusing, and, if you're not familiar with burning CD images, it can be confusing to do that as well.

For some simple directions for the bootable USB Key drive, look here (haven't tried these myself).

That link is for BIOS flashing the card itself, to overclock it. I believe #1sharp' was asking about flashing the motherboard BIOS.

Thanks for all the help guys. Installed my Ultra today. I think it is pretty cool that I got one for less than the vanillas are selling on Ebay.

i have flashed my bios and installed the 6800u, (beside 1 time when it decided to work) i try to boot my computer and it says

"the ac power adapter type cannot be determined. The system can only boot with a 130 w power adapter or greater. strike the f1 key to shutdown"

i have 2 130 w adapters one says, rev ao1 the other, rev ao2. my 9 cell batt has not arived yet and should be here in about a week. i have tryed to resolve the issue via "dell chat" that has turned out to be a big waste of time.

i would greatly appreciate any answers

Any side effects using the XPS bios? :-\ I may just stick with 6800 go this process seems a little too much work for me.

Move the post on CPU temps to the right topic.

My 130W that I just got from Dell is marked REV A04. After going to the XPS2 02 and then the XPS2 05 BIOS'es, the 130W was always recognized (as well as recognizing my 90W supplies as 90W - though you can't boot using them).

Well I just called Dell to order one of these and they were saying $599...... I think I hung up on the CSR, not too sure, everything is a blur after I passed out from the sticker shock.

Yaaay, Constantz finally did it, and has a working 7800 gtx. . . cept i installed the card first before flashing the bios and uninstalling the drivers . . . errmm, yea, yay for vga safe mode. Anyway, alls working im happy, cept i cant figure something out. Maybe someone's had the same trouble. After complete installation, my I9kfangui wont display the gpu temp or dimm temp. Everything else is displays fine though. All i see for gpu and dimm temps are two dashes . . . anyone know the solution? a plus would be to explain what went wrong . . .=p
anyway, ty for advance

y would my computer recognize my power adapter sometimes (dont rember witch one), and not others

I'm getting very restless with this, my computer as been out of commission fore 2 weeks!

All awesome, thank you to all that helped.

I did the upgrade to the GeForce 7800 Go GTX a little over 2 weeks ago without a hickup, followed all instructions, and happy to report another success story
I been playing Serious Sam 2 and Splinter Cell Chaos Theory at 1920-1200 all settings maxed out... just breath^%$#%taking! The graphics just pop out on the TrueLife, I find myself just taking my time in all levels just admiring the surroundings, truly cool stuff gang
First thing I did after the upgrade (besides latest bios flash etc) was to remove all the crap Dell installed in my lappy and I mean everything, I deleted the partitions got rid of Windows Media Center, just made a 10GB partition for Windows XP Pro and left the rest on second partition for games and other stuff. This ofcourse was a personal preference.
My 9300 came with the basic included ATI card and 512RAM in 2 256 sticks,I got that put away should I ever need to revert to original hardware for warranty services, hopefully never!
I got the 2 gigs of Kingston ram from NewEgg and the Linksys SRX400 from BestBuy (to match my LINKSYS WRT54GX4 router with SRX400, this router rocks gang specially paired with matching card) Only upgrade I got left is a better hard drive, I got the basic 60gigs 5400 rpm one included with the basic 9300, I got my eyes on the HITACHI Travelstar 7K100 80GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache ATA-6, NewEgg has it for $155.
I havent had any problems at all with my rig, it is very stable and not a single crash in this 2 games I been playing. It does get a bit warm during intense gaming sessions but not hot enough that it can't be in your lap, but for this I am also thinking or getting one of those notebook coolers with the fans, if any one here has a nice one that fits the 9300 please let me know how mutch ans where you bought it, it would be a cool addition in more ways than one.
Thanks again gang!!! this thread was the last push I needed to buy my first lappy, no regrets but all the opposite... Arrooooooooooo!!!!!!!!

Hi!

I finally got the ao1 cracked bios on to my 9300 to wich one do I upgrade now, or do I have to keep the xpsa01?

Do I upgrade the bios before I install the 7800?

And what driver to use I am NOT a gamer but will only use the laptop for video watching on a crt projector.

Thanks in advance!

Read the original post in this thread for detailed instructions as to what order to do things in. You can update the BIOS to the XPS2/M170 A04 or A05 BIOS if you like. As far as drivers go, it's pretty much individual to each unit, so you'll have to do some testing. If you're not into gaming, I'd imagine the latest official nVidia drivers would work just fine (81.89).

BTW, if you're not into gaming, why would you get a 7800?

Hi!

I did the upgrade from a ati x300 to the 7800 to avoid stutters when watching dvd's in wmr9 mode, and when watching hdtv movie material.

If I download the drivers from nvidia,I need the inf mod tool where do i get that?

Thanks in advance

www.laptopvideo2go.com

Go to the forums section and find the driver you want to install, the inf for each specific driver is in the thread discussing it. They have regular "modded inf's", and they also have "performance" and "quality" inf's (for most drivers). Then just overwrite the stock nv4_disp.inf with the modded one, and install as you normally would.
