HOW-TO: Upgrade your 9300 with the Ultra or 7800 "Photo Guide" - Page 23

quick question.

im ok for ordering the power brick.
can get the card.

only question i have is, it says you need a 9 cell battery.

i got one with my 9300. are they different for the xps2?

can i use my 9300 9 cell?
yes, they are the same 80WHR battery

out of curiosity, what did you pay for the card? (7800 I assume)

Just installed 7800 GTX on two 9300s :)

Thanks OP - great guide.

I just finished installing two - one on mine and one on my friend's.

No major problems; just had some mental lapses

Seems to work great!

FYI - I have a Rev 04 adapter

No luck for me.

I got a 130w adapter and all, but I can't boot my 9300 with it now that ive put the modded bios on. For some reason when i plug it in, the bios says it is an unrecognised adapter. It is rev A00 for those of you wondering. I will be returning the adapter tomorrow for a new one, hopefully that fixes the problem.

Now the cpu running at 600mhz sucks, ive got to get the program to overclock it so i get proper speeds when running on either the 90w or the 130w. I also noticed when using the 130w, my lappy runs, but if the battery is down a bit, it wont charge it, whilst the 90w will when i plug it in after booting.

I havent put the 7800go gtx in, i will when i get the adapter sorted out.

How do I exactly burn the iso file on to a CD using Nero Start Smart. Last time I burned, an 1 iso image, 4 files were created on the burned cd. Does anyone have the exact instructions using Nero Start Smart. Also, the first post said to type in IXPS2A01. Do I type in A04 or A05 to get the different BIOS. What is the difference between the two.

How would IRobertus and skeetjlt feel if i referenced, linked to, and borrowed a lot of the information here to use in a very similar guide on an Australian forum, to explain to them how i got the card and did the mod?

I could send you guys a copy of the post before i post it up. It will be like yours IRobertus, just edited and changed slightly.

if you sell your old battery and power brick with the 6800go... how muc hof a return can you get from ebay?
My upgrades cost:
7800GTX = 252.22
130w power brick = 40.00
1.8 CPU pinmodded to 2.4 = 140.00

I just listed my GO6800 on eBay last night and it sold with a Buy-It-Now within 4 hours for 240.00 (230 + 10) bucks! Thats the highest I've seen one sell for and I'm still shocked! I also listed my original 1.6 CPU last night and it just sold today for 125.00 (115 + 10) bucks! I haven't listed my 6-cell yet or my 90w power bricks yet.

Needless to say.. I'm very happy right now

Exactly what screwdrivers did you guys with XPS2's need to upgrade to a 7800GTX?? any special type of screwdriver needed?
I didnt use any special screwdriver.

I have a set of small screw drivers. Im not sure of their sizes, but i just used the largest of the set.

I just tried my second A00 adapter, and no luck. Looks like i will have to take it back and get a refund (the guy said it was his last adapter). Meanwhile im going to track down other places with adapters and see if i can test em before i buy.

eBay Seller: hoctcomputer He has lots of 130w power bricks for about 40.00 shipped. I got the A04 version from him 2 weeks ago. Paid for on a thursday night and it was in hands the following Tuesday morning.. From CA to NJ in 3 day!

Jut buy from him and when paying specifically request what you need.

too bad i live in Australia, he will probably charge a fair bit for international shipping. also, i can get adapters for $40AU, so its cheaper to get them here. I think ill just try and find a place that will let me test the adapter first, as a couple of them are within a 30min drive.

This is only for 9300's right? The 9400 is good to go, correct?
When I put in pa-13 on ebay I get alot of power bricks that show for 5150, 5160, XPS GEN2. Is this what I am looking for? Any help would be appreciated.

Just wondering how you guys feel about this?

I'll be putting up a similar guide on Overclockers Australia this weekend when I get my new adapter. One of the local places said i could test the adapter to make sure it worked.

I have the 150w power brick but the ebay seller sent me the wrong 9 cell battery.. Question is can I still flash the bios and switch the card and use the laptop plugged in until I get the 9cell battery?

I also bought from this seller based on recommendations on this forum - didn't specify which revision but I got an A04 also & no problems!
