Did you first flash with the hacked XPS BIOS linked in this thread, then update to the newer A05 BIOS? So, you are able to see the BIOS, but just not boot into Windows? You may need to load the Windows VGA driver. I seem to remember people missing their standard VGA driver after installing, and not being able to see anything in Windows.

Hy, thanks for your reply. What does "You may need to load the Windows VGA driver" mean? I try to start in Windows VGA Mode but it's the same thing.
Yes, i miss the disinstallation of the old nvidia driver... Is this the mistake?Do you know my next step?

Yes, i first flash with the hacked xps bios but the bios doesn't recognized the card (unknown video card). The only bios that recognized my card is 05 XPS bios.

Ok, ok, ok, now it's ok.It is a problem correlated with my video driver; it is strange, but seems that the operative system is not able to start with a certain type of configuration (NGO Video Driver 81.95) and Geforce7800GTX. If i reverse to 6800Go tye system startup normally. Ok, i have executed a full backup... I have switched to 7800GTX another time and reinstall with a fresh new WindowsXPPro. At the first start of the os i have installed Dell 78.30 driver (came from the Original CD of Dell Upgrade Package to 7800GTX), and all now works great.
And so for all of us that are trying an upgrade to 7800GTX: if during startup when WindowsXP Logo should appear, all is black ( although the os and the note startup normally) it's a driver related problem. Try to uninstall your video driver (when the 6800Go is yet monted) and then install your new 7800GTX. If it doesn't work, i think that a full refresh of the os is inevitable.

Thanks to all for help.

Hey guys,

quick question, do you know if the 9300 works with the XPS2 power brick without flashing the XPS2 bios ?

Thanks

Yes, it work very well. Try the 9300 bios for a silent system, but take care to GPU temperature.

No, i think that your CD is not correct. Try without flash xps bios to see if system work, and then try to create another Boot CD. Mine works correctly.

Ive installed the 7800 GTX into my 9300 and its recognized as new hardware by WinXP. Ive uninstalled all drivers using DCleaner associated with my ATI X300. When I try to install new NVIDIA drivers i get:

The setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit.

If anyone has seen this how do you proceed next?
Thanks,

Hmm i have no clue what to do

Thanks folks for another success. I solved my driver problem by manually directing WinXP to the drivers folder. And yes the 7800 GTX utterly canes my old X300. Running a video stress test at identical settings the X300 = 23 fps and 7800 GTX = 164 fps!

Lessons learnt from this mod: 1) Cheap Rev A00 130 W PSU works fine. 2) Remove rubber from where thermal cooling fins go. 3) Use decent philips head screwdriver.

Next mods: 1) Sell 90 W PSU & ATI X300. 2) Get dedicated sound card that reduces CPU load, raising game performance. 3) Maybe mod CPU, 2GB RAM or 7200rpm HD.

Hi
I've installed the 7800GTX without flashing the new BIOS and it works!!
is it horrible when it isn't flashed?
I suggest you flash the bios because it only runs in low power mode
post #579 of 1001
but, when i want to flash my bios, it asks me because it is an older BIOS... and when i press 'y' to continue, there appears a error that it was aborted by user!!!

i don't know what i have to do...

might it be, because i used another DOS, i used the caldera dos or something like that... it appeared the same error with an original biod update...
does it works only with freedos??

Hooray! Another successful 7800 GTX install. I am very impressed with the card. Stock clocks, it scores 6569 in 3dmark05. Soon we shall see what increased clocks will do
