HOW-TO: Upgrade your 9300 with the Ultra or 7800 "Photo Guide" - Page 37

NightRaver, please let me know if you get those refurbs. What do you think the price range will be for them if they are refurbished, because if they are $180 or even less that would be very very nice.

Cool. I found this one on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...DME:L:RTQ:US:1
is it the correct one. I note that it only shows one heat sink.

Thoughts?

Have an idea.... Noticed the first thought was to resell the item on Ebay...

How about instead posting here first in the For Sale /Trade section.

I'm always amazed at people that come here looking for "help", and when they have something for sale they instead of offering it here to other board members first as a way of "giving back", post the item on Febay...

No, this is the 7800 go that was available in the e1705 and the M1710.

The 7800 GTX will have 2 heat pipes. It should not say anything about the e1705 or M1710, as it doesn't actyally fit on these boards without modding them. It will say for XPS gen 2 or m170.

Ok, this is getting tricky. I have been searching the internet for hours trying to find the one with the dual heat sinks. I can not find one!!!
How do i word the search so that i only return that the one i seek. The problem is if you put in something like "Nvidia 7800 GTX" you get ever video card known to G_d!!!

Is there a secret name for this video card?

Also any suggestions on CPU upgrade, currently I am running the Pent M 1.86Ghz Dothan, but would like to beef it up. The only thing that matches the socket is the Pent M 2.26...suggestions.

Try 7800GTX with additional term m170, gen2 or 9300. These cards are not highly available anymore. I think the card has been discontinued due to 7900 cards. If you throw in a "go" on your search you should remove all desktop cards. Your best chance probably will be someone selling a used one on ebay.

As for CPU upgrade, the best "new" chip you can get probably at this point is the M 2.26, I think it's called M770 or M780, this card will have a 533 bus on it. Your other option is to buy a M725, M735, M745, or M755 (1.6, 1.7, 1.8, and 2.0 GHz respectively) which are all 400 bus chips and try a pin mod to boost the speed by 33%. Gotta be lucky to find a new one anymore, but I think there are some used ones on ebay. Details can be found all over this forum for instructions/limitations (see stickies, I'm running a pin mod M745 [1.8 GHz chip 400 MHZ bus] at 2.4 GHz 533 MHz bus).

OK, so I have spent a full two days looking for a 7800, to no avail. What is the next best option 7900 or ???? I am open to suggestions.

Ok, I called dell and spent an hour on the phone with Ramilaji, seriously that was his name. Anyway, he said that I can order the XPS 7800, since I have a used XPS machine (wink) that I bought on e-bay. The only catch is the card is $599!!! That seems a wee bit high to me. Is that a good price or should I just keep dogging e-bay until I find one?

I am almost to the point of buying a new xps, I built one the way I wanted it, and it came out to $7800. Probably will be holding off on that purchase until I can sell one of my kids.

Thoughts or suggestions are welcome.

Peace

599 is an awful lot for this card. I'd just keep searching ebay, eventually one will pop up. Good luck on selling your first born, Try the for sale forum

How did you burn this CD? More than likely you just sent the ISO into the "burn to CD" option and burned it with windows. I say more than likely because that's the first thing I did and I got the same result as you. Use Roxio or some other burning software. I use an old copy of DVD Decrypter I have. I think it has to do with the way the programs format the write onto the CD, possibly the lead-in or something.

Hey guys, thought maybe someone could help me with this.

About a week ago my laptop started saying that it could not detect my 130W power supply. It used to do this on and off and then did it all the time.

I put the 9300 BIOS back on, the 6800go back in and it's working fine. (No messages about anything wrong with the 90 watt PS)

So... I think there is a problem with the 130 PS (When I got it the wire was kind of messed up but it worked).

I want to make sure to get a new PS that works and one's I've been finding on Ebay look a little different for some reason (Maybe it's a newer revision?). Any ideas if this one should work?

what program are you using? are you trying to burn the bios as an image?

I used nero and it worked fine. Using nero I went to 'Copy and Backup' then 'Burn Image to Disc'

Has anyone got the 9300 boot disk? The rapidshare link is no longer valid. Many thanks
post #735 of 1005
Yea, i still have one with the XPS hacked Bios. I can hook you up with it if you need it I just have to re ISO it becuase i burned it on a disk. acctually i think i have 2 or 3 copies of it and they are all working, i can just give them to you, because i sold my girls 9300 three months ago and took out the 7800GTX i had for it and put it in her 9400 as you can see my specs below.

As you can see from the picture of your PSU it is "rev. A00". You need at least "rev. A02" for proper detection. I had the same problem but found a work-a-round - not sure it will work for everyone though:

1: Start your machine on battery, i.e. with the PSU inplugged.
2: Plug it back in right before the windows loading screen appears.

The timing is not that critical. When doing this my 7800GTX ran in full power mode.

I'm writing ran because something related to the thermostat broke. Sent it back to the US for replacement (from Denmark), but the package apparently never arrived. It has been 5 weeks now since it was shipped. I'm so VERY affraid that it has been lost somewhere en-route (just makes me wanna cry!).
