Toshiba Satelite A15-S129 CPU upgrade question.

I have a Toshiba Satelite A15-S129 with the Celeron 2.4GHz CPU and I am trying to find out if I can upgrade to a better Intel CPU and if so which one? More information:

The system came with 256MB PC-2700 RAM but I upped that to 512MB (looking to make it 1GB shortly) I also upped the hard drive from 40GB to 80GB. Problem seems to me to be the Celeron CPU is a slug with both Windows and Linux. Although I use Linux primarily on this system.

So I am looking to upgrade from a Celeron CPU to an Intel CPU for this system. Problem is, I have no idea where to look or which will work! The biggest thing is not so much clock speed but cache, the Celeron 2.4GHz CPU in this model has a very small cache and I think that is one reason why I am seeing such poor performance.

Thanks for any help you may have!

What are you finding the computer slow at doing? I had a celeron M 1.4ghz with 512 L2 cache which had problems and was replaced with a Pentium M 1.5 ghz centrino with 2mb L2 cache and there doesn't seem to be very much difference. It seems that the celeron did some graphics as good as the pentium. Both of the computers had identical hard drives (4200 rpm), which maybe part of the problem.

I would guess that the best thing to do is to go to the toshiba website and find the upgrade you can put onthe motherboard that you have. You could also get on the web and search for upgrades for your model toshiba or your motherboard. I used cpu-z to check the motherboard on this computer and it shows Toshiba EAL20.

Thanks

I will check it out. I think it may be the hard drive after all... some testing is showing access times to the drive are pretty long.

I do a lot of DB work so RAM (which will be 1GB the 1st) is paramount but I also need the CPU speed for queries and some of the more complex proceedures I run. I looked at the Toshiba site but all I seem to find are replacement (same CPU's) CPU's that really don't address my needs. The drive is a Toshiba MK80S or something like that.

As long as I have been tinkering with PC's you think I would have thought of the drive sooner!?
