Yes you can bargain at FS. They can work with the price of accessories quite a bit as the mark up is huge on these items but it is still possible with the computers themselves. If you bring in an ad from a competitor with similar specs(*cough* Dell *cough*) they can actually work with the price quite a bit. Even if the specs are slightly different, come in prepared with an approximate price impact of any differences there are and they should work to match the price. Oh and if they show you "Cost" in the computer... keep in mind that there is a mark up when the FS warehouse sends the item to the retail stores so even if it sells at the apparent 'Cost' they are still making money.

My theory on bargaining is that if by the time I leave, they are still glad I came in, then I havent negotiated hard enough.

i worked a FS for 4 years part time and full time through university. For sure you can bargain...but I never once took a Dell ad and justified it with a customer for a lower price.

Toshiba notebooks are dropping in price next week sometime.... (who said that?)

The Dell ad strategy worked for me. They may hesitate at first because they wont have the EXACT same specs but if you suggest a reasonable dollar value for any differences they should be willing to do a 'modified' price match.

BTW I am pretty sure FS gets the price drops 5 days before the end of each month. This would make it logical to expect to see the prices drop for next weeks flyer.

and the more senior the employee you are dealing with, the better off you will be. If you can figure out who the managers are, try to deal with them.

Thanks for the tips guys...

Before I head out to purchase, may I ask what discount I should expect? Would a discount off a price (ie. $100 off) be hard to negotiate or should I just negotiate for a free/dscounted accessory (ie. mice/notebook lock)?

...or am I totally out of my mind with the discounts?

YP3 was right, the Toshiba laptops did "drop" in price...

however, the $100 was not taken off the price, but given as a gift card
