Nope, definitely not looking for a noise, the clicking kept me awake last night which is when I first noticed it. Maybe I'll have Dell send a replacement Hitachi just to be sure.

I had serious clicking problems with the two fujitsu 5400RPM 100GB drives that dell sent me as a replacement even after trying to silent it with NHC.

Third time lucky, in the end i got dell to send me another brand and they did. It ended up being a Seagate momentus 5400 RPM 100gb drive and by the looks of things so far has faster access times and is also heaps quiter.

Motto of the story... dont settle until you get what you want...

I have a Western Digital 40GB 5400 RPM Drive and it makes a clicking sound about every 2 seconds UNLESS there is consistent disk access.
