I was over at the notebook review forums, and one forum member asked how often he should take the battery out of the notebook in order to extend battery life. Here's Justin's reply:
So to everyone that is worrying about how to preserve battery life, don't worry about it!

The batteries in these notebooks only have a certain shelf life anyway..... we only try to keep stock for a couple months because of that.. So if you sit with your notebook plugged in all the time.... that's ok, because the battery will charge and then stop when it's full....... so it's not going to overcharge...... but after a year you're still going to lose something... it may be a couple minutes, but it will be something. The more you kill it / charge it the more it'll lose over the years, and it's only going to be marginally different than a battery that rarely gets used but stays charged in the system all the time......
In other words..... don't worry about it.... get a new battery in a couple years before they stop making batteries for your system and use it freely now!
