Is Bluetooth worth it?

I'm thinking of shelling out $31 bucks for a bluetooth chip. +$85 for BT MX900 + $85-90 for the Anycom Bt stereo headset (total ~$200 ) . I'm doing some research, but it appears to me that it's premature to invest in BT since it's not widely adopted. Everything is more expensive and the new and better BT products are coming out later. I want to go wireless and dongleless but I'm worndering if it's worth it given what's out there. Sheesh I can't even find a review on the Anycom headset (other than the one thread on this forum). How does it even sound?

My other option is to go wireless mouse with MX1000 or G7 and get the Grado SR-60 headphones for a total of 54 + 70 ~ $114 or 90 + 70 ~$160. At least with this option you're sure to get good quality and performance besides being less expensive . Sure you have to deal with the dongle or the base and the wires, but it may be worth it given the cost and the quality and compatibility (does anyone run the BT mouse and the headset at the same time? ).

I have it in my XPS2 and I like it. Forget the MX900 and get the MX5000 keyboard and mouse. It has the MX1000 laser mouse and it works great. Just install the Widcomm drivers for you bluetooth and the logitech software will work without needing their dongle installed.

To me yes it is worth the $30 extra.

The only reason I'd use it is to Sync my phone, but its so damn slow I just use USB instead.

Get it. I got it in my system and while have not put it to all it's uses if you can afford the option get it preinstalled. Why not? BT Mouse, Headphones, and other goodiers will continue to come out...

It's been around for ages, the only cool thing I liked about it was being able to control winamp from my symbian phones...i see no point at all shelling out £100 for a BT keyboard and mouse where the £40 MS Desktop Elite Wireless is more than good enough (Got 3 sets of them)

I was considering getting bluetooth also, but I already purchased my i9300 without it. Where does one go purchase the bluetooth chip, and how/where does one install it in the i9300?

Thanks for any assistance!

that's interesting brlowe; i'll look into it. Does the Widcomm driver for mx1000 work without having to buy the keyboard set? Can you just get the mx1000, use BT, and not have to use a dongle by using that driver? Where do you get that driver?

there is a huge thread on getting the bt chip from dell and how much/little you can pay. but for sure, it looks like you can get one on eBay for $31 after delivery. And installation is a snap (see manual).

Come on people, I'm not hearing anything compelling from either BT or no-BT party. Anyone using BT to the max? Any reivews on BT headsets? I'm leaning towards mx1000 and SR-60 route.

I purchased a 9300 without Bluetooth and then decided that I didn't like having a dongle for my mouse. So I bought the chip from Dell for like $15 and an Anycom mouse. I like it a lot. I was looking into getting Bluetooth headsets too but from what I have heard the battery life on them is pretty bad.

How did you purchase it from Dell? I can't find the part available on their site. Did you call them to order it?

Well worth not having a dongle sticking out of your laptop. Dongles snag things, which can break not only the dongle, but the USB port as well. Besides, it's just damn cool to turn on your computer with nothing attached to it and start using the mouse.

To me, it was worth it just for the bluetooth mouse, anything else is gravy.

bluetooth is good! I have the microsoft desktop set. It's a pain to switch from a bluetooth to bluetooth machine, I have to re-connect to the other computer, but that is only a few button clicks. Anyone have a quicker way?

Im waiting until the bluetooth wacom tablet goes down in price...
