Which is better for gaming and graphics design..
i want all of your opinions on which is better i don't care if this is a nade i must know before ordering..

Ati Radeon 9800 XT 256MB
nVidia GeForce FX 5950 Ultra 256MB

which = better
for gaming..
for drivers..
for graphics design..
which will run HL2 better?

correct me if i'm wrong, but I believe ATI is owning Nvidia when it comes to HL2. Stick with the 9800 for now, i'm pretty sure it will run HL2 better than nvidia.

I got an ATI Radeon 9600SE 128 MB, and it owns, I also got a Free HL2 Game Card when I bought the Radeon Graphics Card. I would go with Radeon for the time being.

no ati card can beat the fx 5950 pro, in fact a whole army of ati cards couldnt beat the 5950, however in the market of laptops ati is king, for now.

, as for grapics, I use maya 5.0, if i could afford it i would get an nvidia quatro. those really are the best for 3d animation, it supports lots of cool gpu hardware rendering stuff, as well as better extensions.

One more vote for ATI.

LOL i just cut a deal with someone who has a partnership with Nvidia, and the new cards that are comming out OWN! he gets 25,000+ in 3dmark 01, he didn't have time to run 03 and see what he gets. He assures me the Nvidia card will come out before the new ATI cards.

If you need to get the card right now. Go with ATI, if not wait a couple of months and get the Nvidia.

Ati all the way man.

I'm going to stick with the nVidia 5950 for now and if I am not happy with it I will send it back to AW for the ATI Radeon 9800XT.

5950 owns all!

If you are going to buy Nvidia i am selling 3 of these on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ADME:B:LC:US:1

Just to let you know.

If I remember right, nVidia has some problem with DX9? Or was that old news? Whatever the case, HL2 programmers had to make a special thing just for nVidia because nVidia refused to utilize DX9 programming or something.
Like with what denkc said, Nvidia didn't use all DX9 code. they put some DX8 code into. For right now it increases performance, but if you're looking for a card that will last you past the next few cards go with the ATI.

I think nVidia is better for OpenGL things. I heard somewhere that MS or Nvidia will release something that lets the nvidia perform as good as the ATI.
