The 9300 has great sound for a lappy thanks to its subwoofer which reallydoes add significant depth to vocal octaves. I looked at updating the sound card but instead I spent 99 dollars on a pair of Klipsch 2.0 laptop speakers, they have 30 watts RMS and bass control and work great, no sound card audigy2 needed!!
Some might want a 2.1 system but I didnt feel a need for it on my lappy plus didnt want to travel with a big subwoofer to set under the table in my hotel room. IF you dont like your sound, get some speakers, forget about that audigy2 pcmcia card, ive heard problems from other users of this card and dont find any problems with sound by simply getting a good set of speakers.
If sound quality is terribly important to you and youre into mixing tracks and what not, I would suggest getting a desktop where you have powerful sound card options that cant be found on laptops.
