Keyboard Keys - Removal

Got another question here. The backspace key is starting to get squeaky - e.g. when typing on the key, the key will squeak, literally - sort of like it's rusty or something.

Is there anything I can do - e.g. remove just that key, give it a bit of a cleaning or something?

My desktop keyboard got that problem with the spacebar. I just pulled it off and cleaned it off (just like cleaning off a non-optical mouse, lol).

Yes, that's what I'd like to do - but I'll need to know the procedure for it. Eh, PCTorque...?

On a desktop keyboard, I just put a flathead screwdriver under the spacebar and pushed til it popped out (on a spacebar, it's attached in two places, so I did it on each side). The backspace key is prolly similar, but I'm not certain it is removeable on a laptop keyboard...

You might try removing the whole keyboard and looking under to see if anything's gunking up the key.

Hi Adam - is this possible then? Removing individual keys from the 5660?

Thanks.

I'm not sure, the 5660 keyboard appears to be a lot different than a desktop keyboard to be able to take it apart. I don' tknow if I want to attempt it lol. Maybe I'll order an extra one to try it out. I doubt even Sager takes them apart.

The 5660 keyboard is the same as the one on my school laptop... I just looked under the End key and it's gunky as heck (cuz the dorms are pretty dusty, lol). I tried to pull it off but it didn't work. I have a 4 years warranty on site, so I wasn't too worried about that part of it.... Just couldn't get it off after some tugging so I stopped. Have you tried pulling the whole keyboard off and looking under it?

Not yet I'm afraid - I haven't gotten round to taking out the entire keyboard. Haven't quite had the time for it - nor the frame of mind in case I take it out and have difficulties putting it back in.

PCTorque posted a procedure for keyboard key removal in the thread:

Looked pretty simple...

Hope that helps!
