Hi, I just want to ask everyone if it's safe for me to transfer fund via paypal to buy a laptop from someone here? (Brian'sm505x). I've done some research but nothing turned up about paypal so I assume it's safe but I just want to make sure. Thanks.

Two things you need to know about transaction that I have come to realize.

1. If the other person has NO references then get all his information like driver lisence number or copy of it and name, address, phone numbers.

2. Talk to the person a lot during the week of which you both agree on price etc.

Do Not Ever do a 30 minute conversation and then go ship the package off. I have come to be real good on sniffing out scams by IM, phone etc.

Google their name and get some research on the person as well.

Oh, well I'm buying from him and I need to send money to him. Am I safe to send the money by Paypal? Thanks

If you use paypal for the payment use your credit card and NOT your checking account. This way IF you get scammed you just go to the credit card company to get a refund.

If you wait for paypal to repay you, then you will die of old age.

Just a thought.........

Make sure he is CONFIRMED!!!!

Using Escrow.com made me fell alot more secure in my one big online transaction. Fortunately I was trading with a good guy/non-scammer anyway, but the peace of mind was priceless.

don't think paypal is safe even they advertized they guarantee your money back. It's all BS. As the previous post mentioned, pay only with your credit card if the seller has no references and if you got scammed, report to your credit card company and don't rely on paypal to help you.

Best to deal with someone with good heatware references over Ebay references.

If you feel uneasy about the deal, trust your instinct and skip the deal even if it's a great deal.

Well I would say if you are 100% positive that the person is legit (whether you know them, someone you know knows them, a site has ok'd them, etc...), or if the trade is very small (under $100) then use paypal. However so many people have been scammed out of money because they think paypal is secure and it is not.

Confirmed Paypal only means that the person has an active bank account they let paypal deposit 4 cents or such to. It does not really make them better if its confirmed or not. It may be their only account they let paypal know about and it may only have a dollar in it as far as anyone knows.
I have used paypal to sell and buy and never bothered to confirm because I do not want paypal anywhere near my accounts. I do always use a credit card though as the credit card company has more laywers and people to type letters than I ever could get a hold of. So its really just luck using paypal so far I have never had a problem. Once I ordered a book and it never arrived so I emailed the user and was refunded my money. So maybe I have just been lucky

Do Not Trust Paypal!

I will share with you a story.... Not good if you use Paypal. This is true and happened to me:
I purchased a LCD TV on eBay from a verified and confirmed Paypal member. It was a scam and they took my money and sent no TV. Several others were taken by the same seller for different items. I used my Washington Mutual Visa card to pay on Paypal.
I protested to eBay who deposited $175 (or something like that) back to my Paypal account after they verified it was a scam.
Paypal told me tough luck, even though they were verified and confirmed. Paypal said they could not contact the member and could not get me any money. So, I contacted Washington Mutual & told them I was scammed. They reversed the charge and I got back my $1328. Paypal in their infinite wisdom did not like the charge-back and decided they could not get anything from the fraudulent seller so they took my Paypal balance of $400 and then told me I still owe them $928 more. I argued the seller owed them not me. No go. They go for the easy money, so they came after me. I totally refuse to pay this. The victim should not have to pay.... so....
It went to collection where I provided the collection company with a police report & they are for the moment off my back. I can no longer use Paypal since I still have a -$928 balance with them. We'll see how it ends, but bottom line: DO NOT TRUST PAYPAL TO GO TO BAT FOR YOU. They will not & only have their best interest in mind. With my whole heart I will tell Paypal to take a hike since it is all about them and not protecting you, no matter what they tell you... Just my two and a half cents...

I figured they could do something like that, my paypal is always zero out. Never trust paypal to play the role of a referee, they always side with the cheaters/scammers.

Also remember that you have ONLY 30 days to request a refund from PayPal. If the seller promises it will be shipped soon and keeps delaying the shipment just remember that 30 day deadline.

As anything, it is buyer beware! (To use a much over used saying)..
Hey Darkplayer... Did they send you to collections too? The chumps...

I'm glad I used credit card then.

It's unfortunate that we have to treat honest human beings with no trust because of what other shady people do. Is escrow service the best right now? What's the cost of going through escrow service? Maybe it's time to shelve the paypal account.
